I love hockey, but I don't believe the NHL's version of the sport is anything close to how great it can, or should be.
I think you're being overly pessimistic. The quality of play in last year's playoffs was excellent across the board, the finest I've seen since the halcyon days of the early 90s. Yes, I'd like to see something put in place to reduce shotblocking (particularly among forwards) and constant vigilance around goalie equipment size, but it's not all doom and gloom.

I see that the Oilers are really focusing in on their defensive play this season.

We should have a separate "Look at this hilarious Oilers screenshot" thread.

I thought Eakins would be a great fit for this young team but it seems no matter who's behind the bench the Oilers can't do anything right. We've coaches of all types of philosophies and styles there and it hasn't worked at all.

I think if they continue to be an embarrassment Eakins will be gone.

Who knows, he and his buddy Howson are probably going to continue the ruination of hockey in Edmonton for a long time.

The Flames, who never seem to be able to completely tank, look better at this point than the Oil.....

The issue with the Oilers is that there's plenty of blame to go around. With all those high picks, they can't even draft properly. Too many forwards and no defense

They're stuck in the 80's. Hall, RNH and Eberle aren't dominating the game every night. Their future top 6 looks pretty good, but every top 6 nowadays has two-way forwards and they got none. Eberle is one of the worst defensive forwards in the NHL.

And I'm not convinced for one second that Scrivens is a starter.

Strombolopoulous is such a hack. I just don't get why people liked him as an interviewer, pundit, whatever. He is just a goof.

Yeah, it's going to be an entertaining season for Leafs schadenfreude lovers, and fans alike. The dumpster fire was pretty much burning blue hot on the first day of training camp with the Kessel fitness thing.

Hell, Caryle basically called out Kessel and Bozak earlier this week for not taking the game and preparation seriously. Multiple reports from the Toronto media (I know they are agenda driven, but it's worth mentioning) about the mood and atmosphere around the practices and dressing room being dead through camp too.

I admit I fall more toward the Leafs schadenfreude lovers camp but I had some hope for them after the encouraging performance against Montreal....This however, is the Leafs team I've come to expect every year.
