It begins! Andersen is great pickup by the Leafs. Hope he ends up having good long career here. Expansion draft definitely played big factor in this move happening now as well. Gibsons obviously the Ducks goalie for the future, and will have to be protected by them next year, so Andersen would be gone one way or the other.

And after the deal was completed, Leafs locked up Andersen to a 5 year,25M deal(5M per year obviously). Great deal for them. He'll be 18th among goalies in cap hit, despite having 10th highest SV%,and 7th highest quality start %, since he entered the league(among all starting goalies with at least 100GS). Similar SV%,QS% and salary as Luongo, but 10 years younger.

Just curious, do you feel his numbers will hold or improve, since he will be behind a different group of defencemen, and depending on their system, do you feel he will be as insulated as he was in Anaheim, or will he have to be more aggressive in net due to more chances from breakdowns or PK?

If I knew more about the Leafs D, probably wouldn't ask.
Expected some talk w/ Fleury, but Cgy seems to be the lead horse in that race.

I don't think his SV% changes much, but GAA and W-L will definitely change.

But Leafs D next year is Hunwick,Rielly,Gardiner,Zaitsev and 2 other guys. Not a top group, but better than they've had in years.

5 years, 25 million for Andersen in Toronto.

So what happens with Bernier? They have to trade him, right?

Should be good move for both Andersen and Leafs, just wasn't sure if his success in Anaheim was system influenced, or if he can steal a few on his own. Haven't seen enough of his style, since Gibson has started agins Pens past few matchups.

Curious to see how this deal will affect Fleury's value in potential trade, if this will increase his value, since one option has left market for other teams to leverage against.

Still wonder if Tampa will do same with Bishop, since they have a similar situation w/ Bishop's contract, as Pens have w/ Fleury.

But this does seem a good forward step for Leafs.

That's a ton of dough in the net, just like Dallas.

Do you think Bernier will garner much attention, since he has been a starter in the league? Buffalo and Calgary seem obvious targets on paper, but are they looking at other options?

Bernier I'd think would be going somewhere. Whoever loses out on the other available goalies like Fleury,Reimer and others, will probably look towards Bernier. Or there might even be one team who knows the prices for some other guys might be too much, and go straight for Bernier right away, before other team potentially start calling, and raising the price.

Bernier won't be a Leaf in 17-18 for sure. So not like they have a long term commitment to big contract goalies. If they can deal Bernier away for a draft pick, I think that'd be a great deal for the Leafs.

Yandle to Florida for a 6th (and a 4th if he actually signs with the Panthers).

Bernier is actively being shopped but even if he doesn't get moved the Andersen signing provides plenty of legit competition for the #1 goalie spot.

It's just been confirmed through various sources that the Red Wings are willing to go 7 years 70 mil with a 10 mil cap hit for Steven Stamkos.

If the Wings can clear out Datsyuk's cap hit, then it's whatever I guess (although there's a rumor they'll have to give up Athanasiou to do so, in which case I'll lose my ****). They have a new building coming, and have to make a splash. I think my opinion is clouded by the fact that Tampa Bay just got to Game 7 of the East Final without any contribution from him whatsoever, but I don't view Stamkos as a franchise-defining 10 million per/year type of player. A star scorer and a top line player, absolutely, but not the type of all-world guy you give that type of contract to. Especially considering his health history.

Competition? You better hope not. Leafs traded a 1st/2nd and gave Andersen a 5/25 contract. If Andersen isn't the clear-cut #1 going forward, that deal's a JFJ/Nonis-level disaster.

Don't see how/why Bernier would be a Leaf come opening night. Even if he's on an expiring contract, all that would mean is that Leafs would probably be more willing to retain some of his salary, if it meant a better return.

I read somewhere that Datsyuk divorced last year or something like that and that his ex-wife took his children to Russia. He wants to spend as much time as he can with them, so he went back to Russia.

And if you are rich in St. Petersburg, I think it is even better than living in Detroit. At least for someone that was raised in Russia, like Datsyuk was. Despite he had nice life in USA, I can understand that he prefers Russia.

Depending on the real amount of compensation that Jim Rutherford expects for MAF, there is a chance Bernier could move west to Cgy, but they seem to be attempting to work out a deal w/Pens before looking at options, based on talk in Pittsburgh media.

First round pick seems unlikely, but what is MAF' s value to the Flames, knowing his pedigree, and their desire to have an sure fire #1? That will determine the fallout, even if Bishop is a trade piece as well.

Still possible, but highly unlikely, MAF is in a Pens sweater past the draft.

Apparently Sabres are gonna offer Stamkos around 7 years,84M(12M per year).

As funny as it is to see Sabres gonna be tied up big time in salaries, why Stamkos! Go offer Lucic something big, let Stamkos go elsewhere!
