Advice for those picking up NHL 2K3...

    ...Stick with it!

I popped in 2K2 last night form enjoyment only to remember how challenging this game is.

I've seen numerous posts of people talking about how they can't wait to set up strategy and do this, do that, etcetera. It is all possible, but the game has a learning curve and should defintely be started on the Rookie difficulty setting.

One timers are hard to set up, in terms of getting the goalie out of position. I remember the old EA games where you could get the goalie so out of position it wasn't even funny.

That said, when you get the goalie off balance, the dives and flops are amazing. It makes you feel good, like you actually accomplished something.

By far, though, the game handles screens and deflected pucks incredibly well. The goalie, if you go to instant replay, WILL NOT move until he can actually SEE the puck. Makes for some very sweet goals.

And I love having all my teammates put out their sticks at waist level on shots from the point. Nothing like a shot going five hole after the goalie had already committed high.

Oy, I'm off topic. Just know that the game - if anything like 2K2 - will be a terriffic experience if you take time to learn how to play it.

If you expect to be a whiz right off the bat, you'll be dissapointed. I only bring this up because this is what I saw some people go through last year. This year, the audience will be much larger and I don't want to see too much of the same thing happen.

I had NHL2k on the Dreamcast, the first version of the series, and it wasn't that good mainly due to the fact that it seemed rushed out the door. I hear how awesome 2k2 was, but by then I had given my dreamcast away, so I couldn't see for myself.

I was disgusted with how similar NHL2002 was to NHL2001, and it sounds like more of the same this year. Hopefully you are right about how great NHL2k3 should be, I need a good hockey game!

When does it come out? NHL pre-season has already started.

The game doesn't ship until 11/12

Yeah, no kidding, I can't wait that long. I hadn't checked the release date until a couple days ago, just never bothered to, and I figured since NHL2003 just came out, NHL2K3 had to be out soon. Then I saw the release date, and almost cried, I can't wait that long.

NHL 94 = One of the greatest sports game of all-time. Last year, I went to a party a little early and me and my friends saw a Nintendo with that game in it. We bugged out. We played until people began to arrive and then from maybe 2 to 5.

I hope NHL 2K3 will be up there.

I can still remember the game menu music.
Remember that shot that always went in when u pass the puck directly to the CPU goalie in a straight line?
