    NHL to Seattle?

I’m interested to know if his role will expand once the team is officially announced.
Didn’t Murray Craven act as an advisor for Vegas?
Does he still have a role with the club?

Craven is the VP of the Golden Knights.

Not Seattle related, but it looks like the Portland Winterhawks have registered some new domains that are NHL related. Domains are all things like nhlinportland.com, nhltoportland.com.

I hope it's not another expansion team. Of the big 4 leagues, NHL is the one least in need of more than 30 teams, and they're about to tie the NFL for the most! As a relocation option I'd be fine with. A few of the obvious choices available to relocate.

If they can figure out a way to stop blatantly ripping off the Blackhawks' brand identity, they may just have a chance.

Also, I'm seeing headlines up here about some group (EIS?) trying to stall/block the Key Arena renos, didn't bothering investigating further as I'll likely be long gone by the time an NHL team ever sees the light of day.

Bettman says Seattle is on track

Next chance at a vote is September. I believe that's when work on the arena is scheduled to begin. So assuming they do get underway with the arena, Seattle probably gets awarded a team then.

As for Portland, Lumberjacks I think would be a great name. I think I mentioned it before, but having hockey sticks representing axes would be a nice touch on the logo.

The Portland Lumberjacks were my NHL 17 expansion team. I just used the old Canucks lumberjack logo and gave it Portland Timbers colors.

Didn't Vancouver use that logo on a 3rd jersey or in a previous iteration before joining the NHL?

Both. "Johnny Canuck", based somewhat on a Canadian "Uncle Sam" character used in political cartoons and the like in the late 19th/early 20 Century, was used as the Canucks logo in their WHL days. The one you posted is the shoulder patch for Vancouver's "stick-in-rink" alternates that they wore up to a couple seasons ago.

I was basing the Lumberjax logo more like what their old lacrosse logo was like, but a hockey version of it: (so the axe and hockey stick would form the X)

Also, there'll be an NBA pre-season game in Seattle in early October, so it doesn't look like work on the arena will be starting soon. With the next NHL meeting being in September, I doubt the vote will happen then. Who knows, we might not actually see a team until the 21-22 season(especially if we see someone opt out of the CBA in September 2019, which I believe will impact the 20-21 season)

The arena work is scheduled to start in October after that preseason game.

In the NBA thread, someone said there could be delays because of approvals/permits.

Most of that stuff is pretty set in stone. There could be some legal challenges to the arena from nearby tenants though and that would delay the beginning of construction.

Not really new news but still something.
The ownership group for Seattle's prospective National Hockey League franchise announced on Wednesday that they had come to an agreement with the city to help renovate the KeyArena, the facility that would play host to the franchise. The Oak View Group submitted a development agreement, a lease agreement and integration agreement to Mayor Jenny Durkan and were introduced to Seattle city council.

I never knew the date for the BOG meeting was October 2nd. Less than 4 weeks away.

NHL deputy commissioner Bill Daly says December is the earliest the Board of Governors will vote on potential expansion to Seattle.

Looks like December is earliest we'll see an expansion vote.

                            Renovations officially approved.
The Seattle City Council has unanimously approved plans for a privately funded $700 million renovation of KeyArena, clearing one of the last major hurdles in the city's bid to land an expansion NHL franchise.

Next up, we find out the exact date NHL will vote on(and approve) the expansion team.

A longshot, but what if Yzerman is part of the Seattle management group? I heard somewhere on TV about Detroit ties he has to someone part of their ownership group.

I've read a few times that Yzerman is stepping down because his wife and kids are still living in Detroit and it's taken its toll.
Yzerman is coming to Detroit and Seattle can have Holland and his terrible long-term contracts for bottom 6 forwards and dmen.
