Bolts got a 3rd back, but this was tied for my least favorite move of the day with Islanders acquiring and then overpaying Pageau.

Janne Kuokkanen is not a scrub. Should the Devils have gotten more? Hard to say, as Vatanen is hurt right now.

The two strangest moves were the Leafs acquiring a 5th for picking up part of Lehner's tab and Ottawa trading Namestnikov for the same price as they acquired him for.

I'm not sure this Flyers team can live with a home goalie and an away goalie. Hart has got to get some road wins on his plate to get whatever mental thing is ailing him when he has to pack his toothbrush.

I remember when Ristolainen and Zadorov were the future for the Sabres, and fast forward couple years later and they're both terrible.

            That's what happens in Buffalo.

Tonight vs Panthers, Leafs now missing Muzzin as well (Barrie is now their #1 dman). What happens here? Panthers up 3-1 in the first.

              So naturally Leafs win 5-3.

I agree with you on Zadorov, but I think Ristolainen is at least a half decent offensive defenseman. Putting up 40+ points 4 straight seasons (on pace for 5) on D isn't exactly easy. He kind of reminds me of Florida-era Jay Bouwmeester. If he were to get a change of scenery, I think he could become a more well-rounded defensemen like Bouwmeester did.

The problem is, they play him as their no. 1 D, which he is not. He leads their team in short handed ice time, and has more defensive zone starts than offensive. Likely due to his size, willingness to hit and block shots as well as a lack of other stellar options, they put him in that role. With more options now, they shouldn't need to use him as their primary shutdown guy anymore.

If you want to talk about bad and Buffalo, then look at the Jeff Skinner or Kyle Okposo contracts. Makes me feel a lot better about Justin Abdelkader or Frans Nielsen.

1 week after the Leafs lost to a zamboni driver, they've now won 3 straight and 4 of last 5.

Now off to California. Good news here at least is that those teams are out of playoff picture.

And weird scheduling decision here. Leafs play Thursday and Friday during this trip (3 in 4 nights overall). Have no idea why they can't just play on Saturday. They always play Saturday....

And since that game, the Canes have lost 3 straight (one in OT). [emoji19] ... Lucky to even get it to OT yesterday after being down 3 to 0. Canes have been starting way too many games down and having to fight back in the 3rd period.

Since the start of January they are 11-10-3. With the way the Metro is going, definitely not going to make the playoffs if they keep this up. Not sure what is up with the team but they don't have the same fire as last year.

Next 5 games are on the road, so itll be interesting to see how the respond. They need to get at least 4 wins in the next 5 games to have a chance at the playoffs. Anything less than that, then I think their season is done.

Playoff picture wise, Boston, Tampa for sure are in for the east.

Caps, Flyers, Pens most likely in as well.

Leafs or Panthers will get 3 seed in Atlantic.

And final 2 WC spots will be between Islanders, Jackets, Canes, Rangers, Leafs/Panthers.

West is crazy though. Top 3 in central are locked up, as is Vegas. All other spots probably won't be decided until the final week or even game of the season. 4 points separates the 2 and 5 seed in Pacific. And the other 2 WC spots up for grabs as well.

That game against the Leafs they definitely looked like a playoff team. That third period was a thing of beauty. Shut down hockey.

                          Flames beat Panthers.

I'd rather play Tampa than Bruins in round 1, but this race between Leafs and Panthers could come down to the wire. 16 games left and Leafs are 5 up on Florida, and Panthers would need to surpass them since Leafs own tiebreaker.

Will Stamkos be back by the playoffs? Hopefully Leafs can avoid Bruins altogether.
