What would stop them from challenging just because? Either because they think it's gonna be called back, or just challenge to try spoiling the other teams celebration post game.
Could be wrong, but I think OT goals are automatically looked at, no challenge allowed (or necessary).

Regardless, I think this postseason (and what just happened in the PWHL game) have convinced me: time to get rid of offside and goalie interference replays. Allow replays that determine whether the puck crossed the line and whether a shot beats the clock, that's it. This is bad for the game.

Replays were meant to overturn obvious mistakes. Not "was the skater offside by 1 inch? Did the skater clip the goalie enough to consider it interference or could the goalie have saved that shot 5 seconds after the potential contact?"

NHL needs a VAR type of thing and/or an official who watches for offsides like soccer does.

That's the point. They have linesmen, but they aren't exactly watching the lines specifically which is ironic.

You need another official who is watching on monitors to check these things.

Even when they go to replay reviews, it feels like they're waking someone up who isn't even watching the game to suddenly check clips and see what the call should be.

I don't think it's worth it. Just let linesmen call the offsides as they happen and live with mistakes. I'm sure somewhere in the afterlife Pat Quinn is still fuming about G6 of the 1980 Final, but nobody else cares. Unless they can come up with something that rivals soccer's upcoming semi-automatic offsides (God only knows if that'll work), just let it be and live with human error.

Replaying offsides calls might be one of the dumbest decisions the NHL has ever made and that's saying quite a bit. Nothing takes energy out of a game more than halting action and determining whether a player is one inch offsides to wipe out a goal that fans have already celebrated. They need to ditch the reviews. If some flagrant offsides get missed by linesmen -- and they rarely are -- so be it.

Don't worry, NHL has made dumber decisions (I still hate the goalie trapezoid rule, and shootouts).

And it's not replay reviews which is stupid, it's the definition of what is offside or counts as an offside call which is the stupid part.

Offside reviews should only count if the goal was scored X seconds after the offside moment in question. If a guy got ahead and scored on a breakaway, that's right to call it back. If a guy is a skate blade past the line and his team scored 20 seconds later on a set play, how can that be called back?

I give Craig Simpson marks for consistency. He's been doing colour for 15+ years now, and his explanation for every single goal is "momentum".

All hockey talk is the same.

Oilers-Panthers is a SCF matchup nobody was expecting. Still at least 1 more game to go in both series, anything can still happen, but last time Oilers were in the finals they lost to a southeast team, time for revenge against another?
