Programmer's Commentary about NHL 2K3 Videos

This was posted at Thunderpuck by an actual programmer for 2K3:

"Like me, everyone, saw the new videos on IGN. From what I read on this board, it seem that some of u, have been scared by the gameplay.... like me.

First of all, I wasnt please when I saw those videos, I had hard time to recognize the game we put so much energy to make. As people pointed out, they probably played the game on an easy difficulty level, and with an old burn. I am pretty sure the burn is more than a month old, because it include the bug about offense always dumping the puck.

So, I am writting to tell you to REALLY not worry about those movies. Honnestly, I thing it show pretty much the worst of our game (and it doesnt look that bad). Unfortunately, it didnt show any new goalie multi-stance stuff, or the pinning or all the cool stuff we added to the game (but I still cant tell you). However, dont think I am blaming IGN, because I really dont. They might have got a not so great burn ( proven by the dumping bug and I remember that for a while the pinning was broken ), also IGN isnt our marketing people, so they dont have a lot of time to learn how to play the game (epecially when the game isnt final yet) and after create a movie.... they probably just picked the game play 2-3 game on easy level and create those movies on that. It just make sense.

Now, about the game being the same... well I guess you guys havnt read my post about the % of change we did on 2k3 (gameplay wise). Let me say only that: about a month and a half ago, I was a little worry about the feel of the game, I was thinking to myself, will 2k3 be really better than 2k2... gameplay wise... so, I replug my DC and played 2k2. OMG, what a relief... I am telling you... from my personnal taste (and pretty much everyone here), 2k3 is WAY better than 2k2... the 2 games are not in the same league... but dont expect the game will be perfect.. it wont, no game is. I just think it will be a pretty good game, but as you all know I am bias... I did it.

And before leaving, I want to thanks the people who havnt panic about those videos... please keep that attitude...

Re: Programmer\'s Commentary about NHL 2K3 Videos

I didn't find a problem with the videos at ign. I realize the game isn't done...so things like this will always be there.
Cameras or guns, one of them is gonna shoot me to death.
