    To ThatCanadianGuy:

Since I don't feel like registering for yet another forum, this is a question about the NHL 2k3 league you linked to from Treayarch's forum...

I know I'm just speaking as as outsider, but why no injuries?

Having helped run UGOFL2 upon NFL 2k1's arrival, and having played in plenty of NBA 2kx basketball leagues, injuries were a big part in keeping an authentic feel.

Down big or up big? Sit the stars to avoid injury. Someone blessed with an almost unbeatable team (every video sports game has had one)? One key, long-term injury realigns the balance of power... in the last, meaningless regular season game of an NBA 2k1 league, my pathetic Celtics injured a key Knick, leading to New York getting swept in the first round.

In past Sega games (yes, I know Treyarch didn't develop them, but I need a point of reference ), there's been just enough injuries to keep things interesting, without being overwhelmed.

With every other league I've encountered, game winners reported back whatever statistics were required to the 'stats guy', including who was injured and for how long. Then, it was already determined by a formula based on how many games a league plays into exactly how long a 15-day or an 8-game injury is translated into league time:

For example, in the NBNL basketball league, we saw that the NBA that year played their 82 games over 170 days, or 1 game every 2.073 days. If we had played a similar 35 game season, an in-game injury of 40 days (NBA 2kx games used days; lost games would be an easier math problem) would cause a real-life player to expect to miss 40/2.073 = 19.294 games of a real-life season.

With a little more math, that ends up the equivalent of 8.235 league games. Rounding up to the nearest whole number, the injured virtual player would miss the next nine league games.

If your eyes haven't glazed over, should your league decide to incorporate injuries, I'd be happy to do the math grunt work and send you the total breakdown for a 35-game hockey season, based on the length of the 2002/2003 hockey season. Or, I could just post in here in a reply for you to look over.
