This is why I don't like to play online in sports games as they seem to dumb them down to make everyone a winner. If I am Canada playing the All-Blacks I should have an uphill battle just to stay in the game regardless of my skill with the controller as I want player stats to have an impact on the outcome as well.

It doesn't dumb it down. It makes it so that you have to win on your own merit. If you're not good at the game you are more likely to lose, even if you play with the All Blacks, because the won't bring you any advantage. If you're awesome you will be more likely to win. It's a measure of the gamer's skill and sportsmanship, which is the point of a leaderboard.
If you want to play someone a side rated above your own and have the challenge of beating a better team then play a private online match, locally, or against the AI.
Stizz: No, the players are rated for their position in the side, but no side is dominant over another. The gamer has to be the difference.Last edited by Milla; 08-25-2011, 06:59 PM.Community Manager - SidheComment

Re: Rugby Challenge
So, you would prefer that a skilled player who has put the time into becoming really good at Rugby Challenge, be beaten and rated as such on the leadboards, when playing less adept gamers who use higher rated sides?
Wouldn't it just come down to which side you chose in that case? It doesn't seem a very good indicator of gamer prowess.Community Manager - SidheComment

Re: Rugby Challenge
Yes, but I'd want to play as the All Blacks or the Hurricanes online when I choose them, not some generic side. It also adds to the bragging rights once you beat someone who have chosen a better team as well.
Just another question, can both players choose the same team?Comment

Re: Rugby Challenge
I can see the point of this. Looks like Sidhe wanted to avoid a common problem in online play in every sports game: People always picking the best team (the All-Blacks in this game, Miami Heat in NBA 2K11, New England Patriots in Madden, and so on.
I don't play much online, and I was going to commend Sidhe for this decision. However, after seeing this:

There should be a way around normalization if you want to (i.e. the Private Matches)<!-- / message -->Last edited by bulls23; 08-25-2011, 08:38 PM.Comment

Re: Rugby Challenge
You're raped away all the personality of players with this. Don't even know when I can get my mitts on it but they certainly aren't as eager now. When I'm using Sonny Bill Williams, I want him to be Sonny Bill Williams, I want him to be strong, I want him offloading, I don't want him to be some generic equal to every other person guy because that's not what he is, now he's just the same as everyone else, he's no longer an individual. A big part of sport is it's star players, it's individuals, you've taken that away altogether and it's terrible.
It's no surprise really that basically everyone is against this idea.Comment

Re: Rugby Challenge
Yes, I didn't know about the private matches being normalised either. Sorry about that.
Thanks for your feedback, guys. I really hope we get to make a sequel, because further developing the online modes is definitely on our wishlist. Keep your thoughts coming!Community Manager - SidheComment

Re: Rugby Challenge
I'm not a big online gamer so it doesn't bother me much but I can see why people would be pissed.
Has that ever been done in a sports game before? For online gamers they have basically reduced it to "generic rugby challenge" as there is no difference between teams at all.Comment

Happy community = better chance of a successful sequel.
and you hold this type of **** out basically right until the last minute? why wouldn't you share this information earlier and get feedback from the community?Last edited by YoungBuck3; 08-26-2011, 06:39 AM.Comment

Re: Rugby Challenge
I think it would have made more sense to have two seperate modes a Ranked and Ranked normalized then people would have had a choice. As is the teams might as well just be generics without faces and names when playing normalized. I understand why it's done but to me it kills the personality associated with each team online."If you don't have anything good to say, say it often"- Ed the sockComment
