    [QUOTE=daflyboys]
But pitting girls against boys in certain sports at younger ages and what's done on the the professional level isn't even apples and oranges...... it's more like apples and...... escalators. So if we want true equality in any given sport, abolish the seperate leagues/organizations and stick them in one big pool under which the conditions are completely the same.
    [QUOTE]
You missed my point. It is obvious that in general, at just about any sport, the best women could not compete in the same leagues at the best men. That is the reason there are women's leagues/tours. But if there is a specific woman who want to try to "play up" and can do it on a level playing field, I don't understand what the problem is.

Go Michelle! I'm cheering her 110%. So what if she hasn't won anything on the LPGA. A lot of players on the PGA hasn't won anything on the PGA, but they still get into these tourneys because they qualify.

But she cant! She has tried, and keeps trying, and for what reason? Does she really think she will beat Tiger Woods? Does she like taking away a spot from some other guy who doesnt make millions in endoresments, or have his own league that he can play in anytime he wants? No, she does it for the reason we are discussing it here, she wants people to talk about her and how great she is. If there was no LPGA, then i would say sure, go ahead and try out, but they LPGA has spent millions of dollars and half a century building a division for women to play in. We all know she is a good player, but that doesnt give her the right to snub her own division, and pretty much proclaim that the LPGA isnt enough of a challenge for her. I would be upset if were in the LPGA, becuase pretty much everyone has beaten her there.

1st off, she is very attractive.

2nd off, just because someone might not be attractive doesn't mean they have no worth.

I will admit i do find her quite attractive, even though she is illegal.

I know this will never happen but how priceless would it be to see the look on Hootie's face if she qualified, won the thing and Hootie realized he had to let her in the Masters for the next 5 years:-).

what is the big deal, guys? Let her play and try to qualify...what is the harm of trying and failing?

And for those who said that Anika couldn't make the cut....If Anika wanted to play on the men's tour I would bet that she could grind out some made cuts on the tour.

                    From CNN.com...

Michelle Wie made her first cut in a professional men's tournament Friday after shooting a 3-under-par 69 in the Asian Tour's SK Telecom Open.

Wie finished at 5-under 139 after two rounds and was tied for 17th at the Sky 72 Golf Club course, six strokes behind co-leaders Iain Steel of Malaysia (66) and Prom Meesawat of Thailand (64). The cut was set at even-par 144.

I have no idea how I missed that particular tourney. And I didn't miss the point. Boy Scouts don't want girls in and Girl Scouts don't want the boys in. If they want to set up purposeful mixed sex tournaments or tours, then fine. Otherwise let the "Boy Scouts" have their thing and the "Girl Scouts" have their's. It's their sport.....let them decide. But, I think we know what the overarching opinion would be.

Since you are comparing boys/girls clubs to a professional sports tour that touts itself has having the best players in the world, then you do miss the point and will continue to miss the point.

You all miss the point. The PGA does not have gender standards like LPGA. This is the same for the USGA. You have to be a woman to qualify for the Women's US Open but anybody can qualify for the U.S. Open. If she qualifies more power to her. At least she HAS to qualify.

The problem is that many men's tournaments are using excemtions to put LPGA player in their tournaments when they didn't qualify for them. That draws the critcism from many pros because they would love the chance to get an exemption so maybe the can earn enough money to gain or keep their tour card. So by giving it to Wie you take away a chance for a journeyman pro.

This tournament in Korea or Taiwan, is really like Roger Clemens going double A baseball and throwing a perfect game, sure it's a perfect game but your competition is much weaker.

As for the Masters, a woman can play Augusta they can't be a member at Augusta. If Wie qualified for the master's, Hootie WOULD invite her. That doesn't mean she would be a member.

Let's not get ahead of ourselves. Wie has a long way to go to playing on the men's tour. If she can do it fine, but that's have her do the way even Tiger had to...earn it.
