Re: Michelle Wie will attempt to qualify for 2006 U.S. Open
^^very serious I was making a point about havin to prove yourself.. if jackie was never great he wouldnt never brokin into the majors. wie doesnt have to go throught that and she can play if she wants but its a principle of proving yourself, she may be great one day but today she havent even won in the LPGA
p.s I brought jackie up because its basically the same thing but its about the sex not the race.....Comment

Lebron did well in high school, skipped college to play in the L. You see my point? Why should the standard of measurment and judgement be different on this certain level? Especially when it's a sport based 99% on individual performance and not partially based on how your teammate or opponent performs with or against you.Comment

Re: Michelle Wie will attempt to qualify for 2006 U.S. Open
After 18 holes, Wie is -2 and tied for 11th place. She is ahead of over 100 male players including a 2 time major winner (Mark O'Meara +2), former US Amateur champ (Ricky Barnes +2) as well as several other PGA tour players that do not have an exemption into the US Open.
According to the espn reports, she had birdie putts of less than 10 feet on 3 of her par holes but missed the putts. Hopefully the putter will wake up on her second round and she will comfortably get in.
Though she still may not qualify, at this point there are about 6,000 male golfers (which being male presumably made it OK for them to try to qualify according to some on this thread) that either didn't make it through local qualifying or did but are wishing they were sitting at -2 after 18 holes of their sectional qualifying.Comment

Re: Michelle Wie will attempt to qualify for 2006 U.S. Open
Go Michelle Go! She's not getting any advantages, she's doing exactly what anyone here would have to do to qualify for the Open. Being a woman puts her at a disadvantage (muscle/body wise) compared to men. If she qualifies, it's a legit qualification, and i can't really see how anyone can complain. If you want to complain then just go out and beat her on the course instead, knock her out of the top 18.Nintendo Switch Friend Code: SW-7009-7102-8818Comment

Re: Michelle Wie will attempt to qualify for 2006 U.S. Open
Update... she is -1 after 24 holes. At this point it looks like -2 will be the number needed to get into a playoff for a spot. -3 would get a spot for sure. She's got 12 holes to find a birdie or two.Comment

Re: Michelle Wie will attempt to qualify for 2006 U.S. Open
To make things even, they need to let men be able to play in the LPGA.
And while I'm at it, why is it okay for there to be female reporters in the men's locker room, but not for male reporters to be in the ladies locker room?Comment

well she started off strong, just couldn't finish it off... I think one day she'll breeze through these qualifiers if she even has to do them by the time she fully matures. Someday she'll be great, but until then leave the men's game alone.http://flotn.blogspot.com

Oh man, here we go.
You cannot compare women to men and men to women in Golf.
Michelle Wie beating out a ton of men MEANS ABSOLUTELY NOTHING!
Golf is the type of sport where the genetic makeup of someone makes no difference whatsoever. It is about balance, mechanics and composure. It is not about sheer strength, aggression and agility. With these factors taken out, it opens the playing surface for all types of people. You then put top-notch technology in their hands, the sky is the limit.
This isn't about bashing women. Women most definitely have a place in sports. Its just that the sport of Golf takes away from the typical aggressive male psyche. Do you see women competing professionally in baseball, basketball, football and hockey on the men's level?? Do you see my point?
Michelle Wie beat a number of guys today who are household names. There is no doubt she is talented. It just isn't saying much. It is a slap in the face to a lot of male golfers out there either trying to make it or having to compete when the fact of the matter is you are competing against the course.Comment
