You cannot compare women to men and men to women in Golf.
Michelle Wie beating out a ton of men MEANS ABSOLUTELY NOTHING!
Golf is the type of sport where the genetic makeup of someone makes no difference whatsoever. It is about balance, mechanics and composure. It is not about sheer strength, aggression and agility. With these factors taken out, it opens the playing surface for all types of people. You then put top-notch technology in their hands, the sky is the limit.
This isn't about bashing women. Women most definitely have a place in sports. Its just that the sport of Golf takes away from the typical aggressive male psyche. Do you see women competing professionally in baseball, basketball, football and hockey on the men's level?? Do you see my point?
Michelle Wie beat a number of guys today who are household names. There is no doubt she is talented. It just isn't saying much. It is a slap in the face to a lot of male golfers out there either trying to make it or having to compete when the fact of the matter is you are competing against the course.
Though if we assume your stance that strength, etc don't matter then we have another issue. If it's a slap in the face of men then they need to get past the "OMG, I just got beat by a girl!!!111!!! That suxorz" attitude, because they just got mentally outworked, the fact she was female doesn't matter, according to your theory.
I don't think women should just get handed exemptions to things, make it a spectacle, but Wie qualified just like everyone else, and did pretty well. Any guy who got as far as she did wouldn't catch crap, people would just say "Try harder next year"Nintendo Switch Friend Code: SW-7009-7102-8818Comment

I don't follow pro golfers so I don't know the whole story of Wie, but I wonder why does she want to play with men?
I'm guessing she believes men are better than women so she wants to go up against the best.
I remember their was a big deal over that Swedish female golfer trying to qualify in a male tournament. She's suppose to be the best female in the world and she couldn't even make the cut. That shows you how low the level of the competition is in the LPGA when you compare it to the PGA.Comment

It wouldnt make any sense if she entered then finished last in the feild.... it defeats the purpose, we all can see she is trying to make history if not she would have just tried to win a LPGA tourny first.Originally posted by BlzerLet me assure you that I am a huge proponent of size, and it greatly matters. how about this though and i think it's a grand idea. How about she accomplish something in the ladies tour before trying to make a mark in the mens'? I can't help but start to think this is turning more of a PR marketing scheme at the expense of a very talented young lady. She's young and impressionable so i imagine she'll listen to advice and so far it just seems to me that the advice she's being given is nothing but bad advice.Yankees, Manchester United, Chicago Bears, New York RangersComment

The tournament is called us OPEN for a reason. It is OPEN to anyone (not gender specific) who has better than a 1.4 handicap. Based on your logic, Tadd Fujikawa a 15 year old male from Hawaii who did qualify wouldn't have been given the chance since he hasn't done anything on any other tours. Should he have not been allowed to qualify either? Was his attempt to qualify some PR move?Comment

On a related note, Wie was way off the cut for the John Deere and couldnt even finish the second round because she got too hot. Get on the damn womens tour. You cannot compete right now with the men.Comment

She is 16, she is still the best 16 year old player in the world. Tiger wasn't making cuts at this age either on the PGA.The Sports Preacher
