    US Open: Who Ya Got?

Since this is US Open Week, I've decided to borrow a page from PTI. I want to know who you think will win the Open, a darkhorse, and your guess to the winners score.

Tiger hasn't played in a while. That's why I'm not picking him.

There's no way that -5 wins this tournament. The winner will be lucky to break par.

                    Pick: Phil or Vijay
                    Darkhorse: Darren Clarke

For those not keeping track at home, Tiger is +7 after 13 holes. Unless he pulls some kind of miracle, I highly doubt he's winning this tournament.

Re: US Open: Who Ya Got?

Whats all these low scores about!? You all remember where they are playing right?

Fave for me is Mick for sure, he now has confidence knowing he can win a big one, he did not have that before.

Winning score is going to be about a +2 thru 4, watch, no joke, I am going to be right on this.

Look up this course in the 1974 U.S Open when Hale won it.

"Hale Irwin gets the first of his three U.S. Open championships in the "Massacre at Winged Foot," so-named because of how tough the USGA made Winged Foot Golf Club. Irwin's winning score was 7-over par."

I think it is going to happen again, I know the leader currently is -3 through 15, but just watch over 4 days.

That was 1974 - 32 years ago. Can't even come close to comparing the game, equipment, balls etc.... from that generation to this. What's used today is MUCH better and allows for added distance and accuracy.

I think -1 to +1 will win the tournament. It's going to get worse over the weekend so I think that's when we'll see scores start to really slide.

true, just like tennis, the equipment helps em' more, but I am still calling +2!!

Re: US Open: Who Ya Got?

Howell had it to -4 but looked what happened to him coming down the stretch, backs up Boltman's point. ONE player under par after day one, incredible...Winged Foot is a monster and is only going to get tougher however it's very fair and this is exactly how the U.S. Open should play. I'm starting to think +5 might win, esp. if there's any resemblance of wind over the weekend.

Mickelson is in prime position IMO, he played pretty horrible from tee to green today and still managed to scramble an even par round out of it...incredible. He hit EIGHT yes EIGHT greens, it's shocking to me he didn't shoot 74 or 75...just goes to show what a tremendous short game and good preperation can do for you. I don't see him hitting the ball as bad as he did today or on the weekend, I think he's going to shoot a good number tomorrow and put himself right at the front going into the weekend with a stranglehold on the tourny. If the question was posed and I know there's a long ways to go, I think it's Phil's tournament to win or lose right now.

I think it's over for Mr. Woods. No way he shoots under or even par tomorrow unless he finds something major in his swing tonight or before he tees off...he hit the ball so poorly today, his driving was atrocious. Usually when he hits the ball poorly, he can save it with his putting but his speed is off and these greens have him baffled...not a good combo. I don't think you can say he's 100% completely out of it yet but he def. has to have a good round tomorrow and sorry but I can't see him shooting anything better than a 73. The fact that he's playing in the morning doesn't really have a lot of bearing at Winged Foot, the best morning round was 69 and only 3 morning players shot par or better...it's just as tough as playing in the afternoon. Tiger is going to have to play out of this world to get back into this tourney and the way he's driving and putting, it's not going to happen.

Damn Tiger, what made you think you could come back on this course and play well. We'll see if he can turn it around.
