IMO, if they are on the disc, there will be ways to get them right away without paying. Same with me, I never paid for TOCA tracks, just saying it was there a few years ago.

More disturbing is not that this particular implementation of pay-for-play material in games is all that bad - after all, you CAN access the material without paying (which I'm fine with). What's not okay is next year or the year after, when they release Tiger or some golf game with 5 or 6 out-of-the-box courses, with NO WAY to get additional courses other than to purchase them from EA. This is where we are headed, ultimately. And that is the most disturbing part of all.

Entirely possible. You've got to wonder how far the nickle and dime stuff can go until there is a consumer reaction. It's looking like "pretty far" would be the answer right now but I still wonder exactly what could be the breaking point.

Touche...For me, they've already gone too far, but it will all depend on how reasonable their pricing schema are. For instance, I'd be willing to accept 7-8 out-of-the-box courses (minimum), if new courses were, say, $1. But honestly, anything more than that and I'm not buying the game to begin with. It's not that $5 or whatever is too much money, but it's perceived value for your dollar - buying the game alone used to get you 10-12 courses, and now I have to pony-up additional cash for what used to be free? Thomas Wolfe said you can't go home again, and that's the way I feel about micro-transactions...you can charge me some insignificant amount of pocket change for stuff that used to NOT be in a game and I might consider it, but you can't charge me for stuff that used to be free. Too bad more people don't feel that way...

Well, we got an official answer on the question about downloadable, additional courses for TW 07 360 yesterday. I was already prepared for the answer, but at least now we have confirmation of the bad news. EA Sports fielded some interview questions from Tiger Woods Nation. This one was at the top of the list:

Will there be additional courses available to be purchased on XBL marketplace? Not the ones they you can unlock, but the true additions.

Not this year, but there is a possibility of these in future versions of the game. We put a Demo on the Marketplace this year and we are hoping to continue to use the Marketplace going forward.
