    Why Not an April/May Release?

Just some food for thought; why not release the TW games when the golf season is starting (I don't think golf starts until the Masters, not at some unneccessary tournaments in January and February). If they released the game in the spring it would make sense in a few ways:

    1) The above mentioned start of the golf season. My interest in golf is always sky-high, even in the deep 6 month freeze here in Canada, but the general public forgets about golf come September. Release the games to coincide with the Masters, and a perfect tie-in in the first year would be if they were ever able to get the license to use Augusta in their game.

    2) The game wouldn't get lost in the shuffle of so many great fall releases, like it does now. Even on this site of hardcore sports gamers, I read alot of posts saying "I'll Gamefly TW and will buy _______ and _______ instead".

    3) It would give EA a sports release in that quarter. After MVP in February/March, there is nothing on the EA Sports radar until NCAA in July. This would give them a more balanced release schedule.

On second thought, this just makes too much sense. It'll never work.

TW like the rest of the EA Sports lineup is released in the Fall in hopes of becoming Holiday gits.

I actually received the 05 version as a gift, so I'm going to have to side with Bertha here.

NASCAR and Fight Night, however, definitely need to switch spots. NASCAR the week after the Super Bowl, and Fight Night in the fall. But that's just me.........

By that logic why don't the release MVP in the fall? Or for that matter NCAA?

My point exactly. TW will always get lost in the Fall release schedule. It seems like outside of Tiger and Nascar, every other EA Sports title is somewhat linked to the start of that sports season. Why this doesn't apply to Tiger is beyond me.

Just look in your latest game mag or any gaming site. There are easily 5-6 titles the AVERAGE gamer will pick up before Tiger. This wouldn't be the case in the Spring.

Since TW and Golf games in general are a "niche" product, they likely feel that it helps their sales to have the latest title on the rack along with the latest Madden, NHL, NBA Live, etc. MVP was targetted for the start of the MLB season, but now it can be released before the college baseball season if they wish or any time. NCAA is a big enough title that it will continue to release in the summer prior to the college football season. I guess EA feels that Tiger would lose sales if it released in January to coincide with the PGA TOUR season.

I guess I'm just having a tough time seeing how MORE competition for the consumer's dollar at this time of year is going to HELP TW's sales.

Guess that's why I'm here and the guy in charge of making those decisions is where he is...with the salary to boot.

I'm not saying EA is right to release TW during the Fall, but they do their market research and this is the direction they have chosen. I do remember that TW2000 for PC was released in February and I am not sure how it did, but it was nice to play it along with the actual PGA TOUR that year....

One of the understated joys for us hardcore sports gamers, to follow along with an actual season, at least the start of it.
