CPU scoring in Season mode (PS2)?

What's the deal with the scoring in the season mode on PS2?

I am currently playing at Pumpkin Ridge, and made the cut. It's the start of the third round, and after finishing the first hole, the scores are just ridiculous.

I finished the first round with a score of 60, and was in first place. In the second round, I shot a 70, and barely made the cut. The CPU shot a 56. In the third round, after the first hole, the CPU are shooting 45's and a 46 after 14 holes. 45! I'm almost afraid to see what the scores in the final round are.

Ultimately it's frustrating. If I shoot a great round and am in first, the bar is set so high as a result of CPU score boosting, it's basically impossible to place first.

It also seems contradictory, as one is required to shoot well to make the cut, but the game seems to encourage players to do mediocre in the early rounds, and amazingly well in the final ones in order to have a shot at competing. The problem with this is that in order to even try this method, the chances of missing cuts are very high. Not to mention, that's not how golf should be played.

Get used to it because it's been like that for the last 2 editions. To me it's a complete game killer if you choose to mainly play offline season mode. That's why I got the PC version, it hasn't been dumbed down like that yet.

The same thing happens if you shoot 88 the 1st round. The AI magically goes from 50's to 90's. I'm thinking that they figure a younger crowd plays the console versions and with most of them thier ADD will kick in and they'll be discouraged too quickly so you gotta keep thier interest until the 4th round. It's the EA logic hard at work.
