Questions on Tiger 07 for 360

I picked this up used over the weekend and i'm torn on it right now. Part of me loves the game, the other wants to break my controller into a million pieces.

A couple questions so I know whether or not I'm doing things wrong, or the game just drives me nuts. The landing area circle, in the stupid "Train my golfer" sessions the ball tends to end up in there more often or not, but when I'm in Tiger Challenge it's usually quite a bit off. Makes it tough to determine whether or not to club up. Does that circle all ready include elevation changes and stuff? Should any shot have a good chance of landing there? Am I just screwing up my analog swing? Seems ok on the range, so i'm at a loss.

Any putting tips? This is what makes me want to kill people. I want the f'n Links putting dynamic, this "Power of 10, 20, 40, 80, 120" crap makes it impossible to get the distance right. Say I've got a 40 ft putt downhill 10 inches. I'd mentally go "ok, that's probably the same as a 30ft putt" and take a little off. Here it seems impossible, taking a little off isn't very sensitive, so you either take off barely anything or way too much. The right stick before the putt to change where you hit the ball doesn't do a ton either. I'm left at choosing a 40 ft power, and either not taking enough off or taking way too much off. Either that or just choosing the 20 ft, maxing out the right stick, and knowing there's no way it'll get to the hole, but at least won't fly past too far.

Any input? Maybe these are just Tiger game flaws and I need to learn to control my golf gamer rage after a Triple Bogey that shouldn't have been. The graphics on my HDTV are awesome though, and overall I enjoy the feel. Just hate the swinging dynamic, it's nowhere near as fluid as Links, where I'd get the hang of my swing and know how to take a little off. Tiger seems like it's not actually fluid at all, just a couple levels or something.

Re: Questions on Tiger 07 for 360

mgoblue, I've seen you online playing that a couple of times when I was on. I was frustrated with the same stuff when I first got the game a few months ago. I've got my golfer at legend status now, but still have problems with some things. Anyway, here's my advice...

    1) Do A LOT of those training challenges. It's good practice and I think it builds your golfer (only through matches and tournaments though) quicker with all of the potential you create. Then go after the Tiger Challenge. I would always club up compared to what the circle showed because I never would hit it with normal power and perfect early on. If it's too much club, oh well. Just try and recover. I'm pretty good at that, and was early on. Pay attention to the lie you have and club. Do the calculations of 80% of 180 in your head or whatever. The first couple of matches on each tier of Tiger Challenge aren't too difficult, but it helps to get practice in on those training challenges.

    2) Putting was always the worst for me too, but I figured it out. First, make sure you wear some clothes that give you a putting bonus, or any bonuses really. What I do is use the putting view (B, I think) and pull the cursor all the way back to my ball. Then I take it all the way to the cup and see how much of an incline or decline there is. If you are hitting it up 10 inches, go about 9 or 10 up beyond the hole. The tip it gives for for every inch, go that many feet, or whatever is basically right, but not completely accurate. I've used it to the letter and my ball goes flying past the hole. I've learned that if it goes up a foot but then flattens out, you don't necessarily need to put a ton of oomph into it. Also, sometimes you can decrease the forward roll on the ball when your putting by moving the right trigger up and down (same as the loft stick). I've used that quite a bit because I'm afraid of the ball flying past the hole, especially on downward breaks. I've become really good at putting but it has made things difficult in some tournaments I've played. I hate two putting.

Personally I love the game. I've always liked golf games and I'm eager to get all achievements in this one. It takes some time though. Oh yeah, wait on playing in tournaments until you're really, really good. I tried way too early and missed the cut in the first two tournaments. Came back after completing the Tiger Challenge (beat Tiger second time out, and it wasn't easy - although "Tin Cup" Tiger got a stroke limit on the 17th island green at Sawgrass which was amusing to watch) and have won every tournament so far. I'm about ready to start the Southern Major as my next. If you want to do a match sometime down the road, shoot me a message.
