Why is a golf game released at this time?

can you think of a worst time of year for ea than this to release a tiger videogame? college football starts this weekend, NFL weekend after that, baseball playoffs around the corner, for those that watch auto racing NASCAR and F1 are wrapping up, and the big soccer leagues have just started. golf season's over, the four majors are through (please don't try to sell me the on that fed ex crap). i realize ea is trying to capitalize on the Christmas season, but does this mentality still apply to a market that is no longer of the teen age? not to mention how many games are being released right now at this same time that people already don't have $60 for, meanwhile early April there's absolutely nothing in terms of new releases. just makes absolutely no sense to release this game right now.

Same goes for the Nascar games. They were released a few weeks ago, with only a few weeks left in the season.
EA needs to rethink their release calendar for certain games.

So you suggest they sell it in January when the season starts? When it's freezing outside at about 95% of the county? Most people don't have golf on the brain while shoveling snow.

It would sell the same if they sold it in January or if they sold it in August

Yes, but they would never have them ready for next year April/May so they would have to wait for a full year and 1/2 to release and actually have to miss a year and far be it from EA to not release something and gouge the market for another year with whatever it feels like releasing..

It makes sense now for Tiger Woods to come out because of the FedEx Cup, its a perfect match since EA put in all the courses of the FedEx Cup. For why they did it in the past makes no sense other than to boost sales around this time. Its the same with NASCAR, they release it in anticipation of the Chase for the Cup and the climax of the year when most people are watching NASCAR and its interest is at its peak during the year. It is also a good way to get people to get their NASCAR or golf fix during the off-season

The last major was just played as well, so I think it's a great time to release a golf game to keep us interested.

Guys, I know your point is that these games should be released at the beginning of the sport's season but your comments on F1 and NASCAR are a bit off. There are 5 f1 races left out of 17. It will end on October 21 so I'd hardly call it "wrapping up". NASCAR is even further away from the end of its season with 12 more races left. Their season ends November 18th.

Tiger should be released along side the Masters.

Off topic - NASCAR should be released nearer to Daytona.

Also, consider the fact that for a lot of people, their own golf seasons are about to start winding down. so a lot of people are probably looking for something to hold them over golf wise when they can't get out on the course.

Game sales statistics aside, this is what I would do. However, I would think that a January-ish sell time would be dumb, and April-ish is the beginning of the summer doldrums, so I'm sure there are other reasons.

It is being released during the FedEx Cup to take advantage of the event. Look at the new courses. All of them are in the FedEx Cup challenge.

                        Exactly.

Also since it is just about the only choice of video game golf on consoles any time is the right time.

I have news for the PGA and EA Sports...no one really cares about the Fed Ex Cup.

The PGA TOUR and its fans beg to differ.

Well, Tiger certainly seems to agree with JRod...and he IS the PGA tour.
