    PUTTING????%$##@@

What is the rule of thumb here? I heard mention of a flawed putting system but this is ridiculous. Certainly the one foot of power more or less for one inch of elevation doesn't apply here.

Yes it's broke even though Tiburon denies it. I know it's broke because going by their power meter sometimes the ball doesn't even make the hole no matter how hard you hit the ball.

My advice is to practice putting because it's trail and error until you figure out how much power to add to your putts. It all depends whether the ball is level, going downhill or uphill. I typically increase the putt range by 100-120% which allows me not to putt as hard. So if i'm looking at a 10 ft. putt i'll increase the shot range to 20-25ft.

Again you'll need to practice, practice until you figure out how much you need to compensate.

I don't like the multiple putter range system myself, but this is the most intuitive, challenging, and potentially rewarding system that EA Sports had used in the TW series to date, IMO. I don't know that you can apply the 1ft/1in rule in this game. It seems to go beyond that model.

The best thing I can tell you is to practice putting in one of the mini-games and experiment. I haven't gotten a handle on the add and remove roll/spin control in putting (with the right stick in my case). It seems to be more variable this year. Putting maximum top roll on it seems to add more than 3 feet to the putt.

Personally, I like the added challenge of the swingpath and tempo affected putting strokes this year. It can be frustrating and humiliating, but it also makes the fruits of proper execution more fulfilling, IMO.

I've noticed that going by the guide of 1 ft. per 1 inch, is not always applicable.
Going by that guide, especially downhill putts on a few occasions for me, i really overshot the hole.

More often than not it's been a good rule of thumb for me. But as i say i've been
snookered on longer downhill putts where i thought i took off the appropriate yardage.

Something you need to keep in mind with this game is that it's very easy to unwittingly select a different range putter while you're scoping your putt. It happens to me most often on a downhill putt. I was playing an online match and was tied going to the last hole. I had a 16 foot putt that 3 inches downhill. I was moving the cursor to see the elevations as I moved it back and forth. I thought I still had the 10 foot putter, with about a 1/3 overspin adjustment on it with the right stick.

I had unknowingly reselected the 20 foot putter, and promplty putted the ball off the green and into the sand trap!? It's hard to discipline yourself to do that... even after doing that, I've probably done it three or four times since then.

My rule I try, and have fairly good sucess with is uphill putts actually move your aiming cursor the exact distance of elevation. so 2" uphill I go 2" uphill and I use the 1" = 1 ft rule on all downhill putts.

I think the 1in/1ft applies if it's a nice steady up or down slope. It doesn't apply if it's really steep some of the way, then levels out or vice-versa. You also can't trust the "cheat" line either. It lies, especially on power.

I actually like it. I do a lot better when I just look at the break, the distance, and go on instinct. They finally made a game that's challenging. Well, at least until your stats are maxed, then you can recover from a bad shot or hole because of all the power and spin.

I think that is a bug that the putter distance is not resetting and is using the previous putter distance instead of the new putt distance. I am reporting this random bug to see if Tiburon can fix it.

Ahhhh... they may indeed be the case Divot! I could have sworn I was paying attention to % as I was doing this. I'd like to see if that gets addressed. You're all over it bro!
                    Thanks!!

And where does the putting grid go when you're playing in PGA Tour mode?
I have my swing set to alternate and my putting on standard which is supposed to have the grid. I don't like the yellow dotted line, it doesn't give an accurate read of the green.
This is a PS2 question BTW.
