TW 08: Too hard?

I played in a tournament with my maxed out golfer and finished in 113th place. Gimme a ******* break. Thanks ea for making the ai unbeatable.

Weird because in the beginning stages I was destroying the CPU and my golfer hadnt improved anything at that time. I noticed that the competition plays to you though, when I wasnt setting the world on fire they seemed to struggle and when I started off well on the first day it was guaranteed to be a tough tournament. It seems that the Tiger Woods series has always had a problem with the game being too easy, maybe its does the opposite when you get your golfer maxed out, thats my only guess.

I personally have issues with the analog swing on Tour Pro, it's just too erratic or touchy...it's one thing to be "hard", it's another to be inconsistent and not give the user any hints/info on what they are doing wrong. I don't mind totally jacking tee shots, but tell me how I hit it wrong so I can work on it.

As it stands now I know that 1 out of 4 holes I'll blow up and shoot a 7 or 8, kinda takes the fun out of it. That's just my experience, but oh well.

As a Tiger Woods player I'm worried that if people complain about how hard the HARDEST difficutly setting is on the game that they'll dumb it back down for next year. That is the last thing that i want to see happen.

Yeah it can sometimes be eradict, but that's how it is in real life. Consistancy is not a given in golf.

I hope that they refine the difficulty, but that they don't eliminate it.

Oh, I don't want it too easy...I like difficult, they just make it near impossible to truly get anywhere near consistent. Links had a swing that was unforgiving but consistent. I could get better if I kept playing and learned. I don't feel that way with TW. I feel that I do the same exact thing and get 2 different results at times.

Sure, golf isn't consistent, but they take it too far IMO. I get your point, i just find that they take the fun out of the game by making it unlearnable. I'll jack a tee shot like 45 degrees to my right and the stupid arrows that should teach you don't change one bit. How am I supposed to learn? That's what drives me nuts. I don't mind learning and getting better at a game, but TW doesn't give me that. It's fun if I know why I screwed up on a shot and knew I could get better with time. I don't feel that now. I feel like it's a coin flip on the tee whether or not I shank it, and that's not fun or realistic.

IMO TW 08 and Fifa 08 are in the same position NHL 07 was. Great strides in gameplay and just fixing the franchise, but huge glaring issues that take away from the fun a bit. NHL 08 fixed those issues and made the best hockey game IMO. I hope TW 09 and Fifa 09 follow suit.

That's awesome. I hope I get this game as a Christmas gift. I want a good challenge like that in a golf game.

I wouldn't call it challenge quite as much as frustration, but that's just my opinion. To me, challenge is something that you can learn from and get better at. I don't get that with TW. No matter how I swing, how much I play, I know I'll shoot a 8 or 9 on some holes because of the crappy swing. If that's challenge then I don't know what "challenge" is...I'll let it go, and just not play the TW series until they improve...just annoying that the game does so many good things and just has to kill it for me. Links had a perfect swing, why can't other games do that? I don't play TW much because I don't want to throw my controllers against the wall.

I agree... there is no way to tell what you're doing wrong on the analog swing. Obviously I feel as if I'm using the same motion each time, but I get radically different results from tee shot to tee shot. I've tried going in and just practicing, but it doesn't seem to help.

Yeah, there's alot of people who seem to think the stick is too touchy. I think it just varies person to person and if you havent play the game yet, dont let that deter you from getting it or not. Personally, I dont have any trouble with the stick but my friend does. I don't really know what to say other than take it easy on your up swing. You dont have to rapid fire the analog forward to get a nice swing. And also if u hook or slice, choose to add the opposite before you hit. That way if u always slice off the tee, if u add a hook then it will come out on the fairway. Having never played a TW game before, I find it quite nice and quite challenging. I think the game really has a high learning curve which is why maybe some reviewers or players give up on it easily and go to Hot Shots or such. I find it refreshing though to be playing a sports game 3 weeks after starting and still improving my game and learning new things on a daily basis. With TW 08 I really think it is a case of practice makes perfect. Just keep at it...

I like the difficult of Tour Pro, even though I would say that I'm a less than average player. I play mostly online in Tour mode and my record is something like 95-112-24. I've really sunk over the last month to the point where I'm only winning about 20% of my matches.

What I'm starting to realize is that a lot of the players who are beating me regularly are using Joytech NeoSE controllers, whose sensitivity is very low and it's darn near impossible not to hit a straight shot with one every time. I bought one and found that it took too much of the designed difficulty out of the game. I got tired of hitting the ball perfect every time.

I can tell when someone is using a Joytech because every shot is perfect, but they have trouble regulating shots on pitches and partial stroke approaches because the lack of sensitivity bites you on the amount of touch for shot strength. I still score better with the Joytech in spite of that, but I found that I enjoyed the game far less when using it.

One thing you might want to try is adjusting your controller sensitivity down to "low" on the Game Defaults under your Gamer profile in the 360's mini-dashboard. That helped me somewhat, but I still shank or duck hook one or two shots a round when I get complacent.

I'll have to look into it when I play next....Trying to add draw or fade before the shot won't really work for me though, I never know if it's going to hook or slice (it's not consistent, just my entire problem). I try going slow and that doesn't seem to help (almost magnifies the problem sometimes).

I might try the sensitivity stuff, but then I'd have to switch that back before I played every other game.

Glad you guys are having fun though! It's a great game otherwise, I just hate that it gets me angry because I'll jack one way way out of bounds while I'm doing the exact same swing I had been doing. I don't want to hit it perfect all the time, just with me it's either fairway (or first cut of rough) or out of bounds. There's no middle ground.

Anyways, I've been over this enough. It's the best TW they've made, I just get angry when the game decides I should shoot a 8 and ruin my entire round. Happens every 4ish holes. I don't play games to feel cheated and get annoyed. Real life can be annoying as it is. TW just takes it out of my control and that drives me nuts, hence why I don't really play it often. NHL 08 isn't perfect, but it has me really wanting to play. When I think about playing TW I don't think "man, it'll be fun to get in 18 or 36", I go "Man, I don't know, it seems like that game gets my blood pressure up".

If the HARDEST difficulty setting is too hard then maybe the common sense thing to do would be to lower the difficulty. I guess some would just rather come on here and complain instead of doing the obvious.
