Re: Since you don't like TW putting How should they do it
Well, first of all, I find putting accuracy to be as much about directional control than distance control. Not just finding the line of the putt, which is difficult in and of itself, but then actually striking the ball squarely so it follows that line. And with the correct speed so the ball doesn't break too much or too little before the hole. The Tiger system is basically find the line, pick the distance, and stroke the ball perfectly every time. It was never like that in JN6 or Mario Golf. You could actually miss-hit a putt, which isn't so uncommon an event even for a tour pro. As a result, lag putting really suffers in the Tiger games. There's not much reason to putt for position on a 40' putt, the one coming back will be just as easy or difficult no matter where it is. But that's just my opinion about the whole thing.Comment

I'm in the same boat I personally love the putting system. For me it seems like it's about feel/finesse. I don't really have problems on lag puts or seem to have issues that others are having. I may not be seeing the issues probably because my video gaming standards are not very high. I don't critique these games so much unless it has a glaring/totally broken feature like no fatigue in Madden 07 or the issues NCAA09 had. Still this is by far the best TW in years. correct
the TW system is dumbed down to where feel and power in the putting stroke are taken out of your hands and put into a predetermined distance marker. Not to mention that the amount you need to stroke it a certain distance changes depending on if you are at 10,20,40 or 80 on the meter. You have to make a full stroke to hit it 20' (at 100%) or the same full stroke to hit it 40' at 100%). it's just not realistic.
In RL and Links 2004 your putting "stroke" is constant and the determining factors of distance is how far you draw back the putter and how well, forcefully, far you follow through. Which is how it should be.
FYI, the way I am able to enjoy TW 09 is to constantly change the distance marker to 40' (or equivalent of 40' 100% ie 20' 50%) for every putt I make. That way it offers a reasonably reliable and fairly realistic and repeatable back and forth putting motion for most putts. It's still not as nice feeeling as Links 2004 because the putting stroke in TW is too short but it's serviceable to allow me to enjoy TW for what it is.Last edited by Klocker; 08-31-2008, 03:13 PM.Comment

Re: Since you don't like TW putting How should they do it
just turn mulligans on and have at it on the first green of a play now game.
I just go in and practice making the same putt and then miss long and try from other angles. one nice thing about this mulligan system is it let's you replay the stroke even after you hole it.
not optimal but it helpsComment

Yes, that would be a dream to have that putting system in this game. It isn't perfect, but it is light years better than the multi-range putter system used in Tiger. I think LInks 2004's putting stroke would have been tuned and tweaked to be even more intuitive and proportionally responsive had Links 2005 been released on the XBox, and especially what was to have been Links 2007, on the 360!Duke Football? Re: Since you don't like TW putting How should they do it
one other putting workaround I may share with you is for eliminating that ugly LONG putting stroke on tap ins.
what I do is move the meter to 20' (left and rt triggers 360 adjust the distance meter instantly) and then I just quickly make a full stroke ... yea <2' putt, 20' distance marker, full swing on the stick but really fast ... just a click, click... and the animation does not do the back stroke just a follow through. much less ridiculous looking and the ball goes in as often as it should.Last edited by Klocker; 09-01-2008, 02:30 PM.Comment

I just can't get over nobody at the owner of the code's job saying "hey, maybe we should make this game."#WeAreUKComment
