TW09 Too Easy?
So I haven't played TW since 06. I just finished beating Adam Scott, won my first tournament shooting - 21 and winning by five strokes... I'm on the hardest difficulty (Tour) yet I hit the ball straight every time... I always have a 5 - 10 foot put for birdie... there is really no challenge.

Re: TW09 Too Easy?
I posted this in another thread, but it's more applicable here... try this:
"The gamer has to take the responsibility to tweak this game to the level of challenge they're looking for. Club tuner, attributes, and equipment amount to what we call "sliders" in team sports games. I play the game in Tour Pro mode, but I was already finding that I could carve up the courses with surgical precision if I left my sweetspots too high, and let my attributes climb above 9.
Let me share this story of what finding the right balance did for me. I played my second season even first round at Pebble Beach Wednesday night (which BTW, is stunningly natural looking in TW 09! It's like a new course!!), with my new settings. My player attributes overall are 8.1, my driver is 21% sweetspot, woods 21%, irons 23%, and wedges 23%. I shot a 75 in round one, which included two double bogies, including one on the 18th after I sliced my tee shot OB (and it really was OB, but only slightly).
I missed fairways and I missed greens, but I always knew why and didn't feel cheated in any way. The swing feedback meter keeps showing me the same tendency with my swing, but I just can't get around it. I've got some draw bias built into it to counter it, but I still tend to fade/push the ball.
Am I complaining here? Heck no!! That 75 was probably the most fun and gratifying round of TW golf I've played offline in its next-gen incarnation. I can see myself keeping just what I've got, tuning and attribute wise, for some time to come. I'll get killed online with these settings, but what they hey... I love the realism this affords!"
Three days since I posted that and it still holds true!Duke Football? Hell yes it's Duke Football! --- Coach CutcliffeComment

Re: TW09 Too Easy?
After being a vet of Tour mode, I have noticed that online players will blast the ball 375-400 yards all the time. Im afraid that adjusting the "sweet spot" only brings out the cheesers and cheats since they can put their modified controllers at work alot better. I prefered last years difficulty over this years. There was a max out distance that everyone could hit 290-320 on average and the controller was more sensitive on the swing.
I feel like this years tour mode is a enhanced version of default, My power is a 10.5 rating and the sweet spot is around 35 and kids are still out blasting me by 30-50 yards, I feel like its turned into a putting contest now since everyone is landing the ball on the green or right up around it everytime.
I love this game but when people hit the ball that far it just makes it seem too arcadish to me and really takes away the approach shots from 150-175 yards out.Comment

Other than green speeds, rough length and the like are there options to limit how powerful players can be? It would be interesting to have a game where your players attribute total could be no higher than 20.Comment

I wish that you had the ability to set an average attibute ceiling for online games. I think things would be a lot more interesting if "8" were the upper limit.Duke Football? Hell yes it's Duke Football! --- Coach CutcliffeComment

Re: TW09 Too Easy?
I haven't played 09 yet and haven't touched the series for a few years for this reason. I remember quite a few years ago playing one of the EA Sports PGA tour games before Tiger Woods on my friend's PC. Actually played this quite a bit and it was very challenging even though it used the three click swing mechanic. It took a lot of practice to be able to break par and stay on the first page of the leader board in the tournaments. It was very satisfying to play a great round and really felt like an accomplishment to win a tournament. My memory may be going, but I remember the first Tiger games on the PS1 also being pretty challenging.
Like the poster above mentioned, I guess it is good that you can tune your clubs to add to difficulty and get a more sim experience, but I wish it was the other way around with an option for newbies to select and easier play mode if they can't handle to more simulation defaults. There really needs to be more margin for error in the swing, especially with the big dog. EA should make it so there is real risk/reward in using the driver on holes with tighter fairways, just like it is on the PGA tour. Make it so you can't hit drive right down the middle at will and therefor make club selection come into play. Also make it hurt when you hit into the thick stuff. The other gripe I have is with being able to spin the ball after the hit. Real PGA golfers don't have the ability to see that a ball is going to be long or short and then decide what spin the ball needs. They adjust their stance and swing before to put the kind of spin that they want.
The game looks awesome and I love the create a player and all of the course, but I just wish they would do something about the golf. I know you can use house rules to handicap yourself and make it more difficult, but that isn't going to work when you need to go 30 under to win online. I just want to see a more realistic game of golf.Comment

Re: TW09 Too Easy?
They call it "Default" mode online because it's the mode to which game defaults. It's actually called "Balanced" in offline play, but "Balanced" is the "Default" online mode. I've often wondered how many more people would play Tour Pro mode online if the game defaulted to Tour Pro mode for online play?
From what I've seen, a lot of people who play Tiger Woods console golf are very casual gamers. They stick the disk in and play. I'm not sure that Tour Pro would be the preferred mode of play if the game defaulted to it, but I'm wondering if it would shift the online ratios from the 85% (Balanced), 15% (Tour Pro) that I estimate to be the case currently.Last edited by OnlookerDelay; 09-05-2008, 07:49 PM.Duke Football? Re: TW09 Too Easy?
Being a TW lifer I still think the putting is too easy. I have my golfer at 7.1 overall and sink almost every putt. I do like that I can shank a shot or miss a green, but once I am on the green or chipping it is almost automatic. I wish the putting mechanism could be changed to resemble most of our real putting games. if I have a 40 footer I am thrilled if I am inside 10 ft. (+12 handicap). I truly do not believe you can 3 putt a green. That said, a vast improvement in game play over last years edition. I would love to also see adjustable wind, caddie notes, and better commentary.Comment
