Possibility of a TW 09 skill-cap item in Pro Shop!

I'm reading a lot of comments and hearing some support online from other Tour Pro mode players for a way to limit our player's skills to something more realistic. I've reached a pretty reasonable balance with a skill point average of "8", but it's hard to keep them down without going out and purposely stinking up an offline round.

The idea of a Pro Shop item (shirt, hat, watch, wristband, etc) which could be purchased for the purpose of "capping" the players skills at a certain level (8-8-8-8) for example, has been tossed out elsewhere. I think it's a great idea and would save me a lot of heartburn with going through the daily chore of "adjusting" my skills downward.

I'm just curious as to how many of you would find this appealing? I know it sounds a bit self-defeating to take on lower stats because you are going to be outgunned when you get online. What could happen if this takes off is a "cottage division" of Pro Tour mode "8" players could emerge and sustain ourselves be playing within our "Guild", so to speak. Others have suggested that even "8" is too high, and they might want something less. I like the idea of an inconspicuous wristband, maybe an Ocho-Cero wristband (in deference to Chad Ocho-Cinco ) could be used to allow the gamer to set the skills where they want them, up to 8?

Anyway, I know that this idea is being given official consideration and any support for it here would be fed back to EA Sports. I'd like to hear what some of you guys think about it.

 I must humbly admit that I overlooked, what I thought was an introductory disclaimer in the patch announcement this morning:

"Additionally we have added a Powercap password system to help balance gameplay drive distance."

That addresses the major issue that I'm asking for in the skill capping idea, but doesn't address the accuracy, short game, and putting skill limitations that I'd also like to impose. Since this has already been announced, I'd say the chances for getting an across the board skill capper are lessened, but I won't give up on it yet.

I love this idea - caps at 8 for all categories.

Then, we set-up a TOUR PRO LEAGUE, and make sure that sweet spots must fall in a "range" and no one can wear any clothing that gives you permanent boosts.

      This could be quite fun.

Onlooker, it really is sad reading your posts on this subject. Hard to understand why developers would incorporate a points system that auto-levels like that -- which happens to be my biggest complaint about Links 04, BTW.

I play all my golf games with my player at the lowest possible skill level, with the exception of driving distance which I tune up a bit so I can hit 260-270 yard drives. In the PC version of the game (TW 08), it's possible to set any of your attributes at any level. I simply can't understand why EA would change that for the console version.

I've thought about getting TW 09 for the Xbox 360 -- the last TW console game I got was 06. But this kills that idea. No way I'm going to go through all that hassle, wow.

baa7, they don't design console golf games for guys like you and me. Most of the Tiger Woods console fanbase is conditioned to expect power-ups and Hurculean performance potential. That's why we have what we have. It just seems a bit ironic to me that you can buy apparel in the Pro Shop that will grant you an across the board 12 skill point player, but there's not an apparel item for something less? The only person who's going to be affected by such a purchase is the player themself!

I'm not giving up on this just yet. How hard could this be? It's already been announced that we're going to have additional Pro Shop items for download in the future. Why not a wrist band that gives you an 8-8-8-8. Couldn't those 8's be plugged into the same equation that the 12's are getting plugged into now?

Has anyone ever considered (for the legit TOUR PRO gamers out there) the following -

Instead of creating your own player, use the licensed pro's that are in the game, and play a "season" with them? If you look at their attributes, some are not maxed out past 10. I wonder if this would be an alternative way to enjoy Tiger on the Tour?

I'd dig an online league like this.

I have tried to play using the licensed pros in the game and I just don't feel it. I still find them to have higher attributes than I want to play with. Threre's just something about playing this game with a reasonable fascimile of myself that makes it infinitely more immersive.
