Tiger Woods 09: Completely Unplayable for me

    Balanced: too easy
Hard: Easy but computer scores are REDIC
Tour Pro: computer scores good but not letting me have putting preview kills it.

You mean the grid does not give you enough information? I play TOUR PRO with the grid OFF because it gives me too much information....

      Agree.

If you've ever putt in real life, you'll know that it ain't easy. "Leaving a 3 footer" is a challenge in itself, nevermind trying to drain 30+ footers.

If anything, the series has been far too easy, even on Tour Pro. (Bumpers for draw and fade? Providing exact percentages on shots from the rough and bunkers? C'mon.....)

I'm encouraged by the progress of '10.

My problem is figuring out the distance aspect of the putting. Like why is there 10 different powers associated with it. It's very confusing

Worst thing about the game. Luckily, EA is changing this for 2010.

This has been my number one gripe about this game since its inception on the next-gen consoles. It is totally counter-intuitive and slices the putting game up into something that's not nearly as analogous to the real thing as it could be. Luckily, as Hurricain has already pointed out, there will be one putter in Tiger Woods 10, and you'll have to regulate the stroke with it for all putts, just as it should be.

Has anybody actually had impressions out on the new putting system? My main concern with the "one putter" approach is the shorter ones. It's currently a monumental struggle for me to hit short shots with any type of wedge (less than 50% power) just because the analog control doesn't lend itself to a super quick back and forward motion. It's basically just a quick tap and see what happens, sometimes I'll hit it at 30%, other time 60%. I don't even bother trying to hit an approach shot that would end up less than 100 yards from the green so that I can hit a full wedge into it. Essentially, on the shots I should be knocking very close to a pin wind up all over because of lack of distance control on short shots. If only I could switch to a 3 click system on those...

Yeah, that's my concern as well. I have the exact same problem on chip shots too. I always lay up outside 100 yards.

Anyway back to the OP, Tour Pro is the way to go. I was winning too easily on any other difficulty (pretty much with the putting line help anything within 50 feet is almost a gimmie). Learning to putt the right way is the way to go. Now, putts beyond a few feet are not gimmies, and anything beyond 15 feet or so is difficult (as it should be).

It took me time to learn it, but it was well worth it. Actually with 2010 coming out next month, you may or may not want to bother as the putting will be different.

Ummm, no. In real life the closer I am to the green, the more control I have of the wedge and subsequently hit shots closer to the pin. Is this a real question / response? You really want a full strength wedge of 125 yards into a green vs. a 50 yard pitch? If that's your game fine, but I don't know anybody who lays up so they can play a full wedge vs. a shorter shot.

This game currently makes it extremely difficult to manage these shorter shots, when in reality these are the ones that are the easiest when playing in real life. And if they're not the easiest, somebody needs work on their short game for awhile.

One of the easiest shots for you maybe.

PGA Pros are constantly laying up to full wedge distance. They want to a)land it on the green, b)land in chipping range, c)land in a green side trap, d)full wedge. It is quite different for weekend golfers. 99% of the pros will pick a full wedge from the fringe/first cut over a 50 yard shot in the middle of the fairway. It is a shot they have a lot more practice with and something they feel they can control better. They know exactly how far that full wedge is going. Anything less than a full wedge depends on feel for a shot they don't play very often.

You see it hole after hole watching a PGA broadcast. The announcers know the pro's yardages and tell you before they hit a shot what yardage they are trying to get to for a full wedge into the green.
