Re: Tiger Woods 10 Golf Courses?
This is what I did. I knew I was going to get the game regardless, so I figured I might as well get an extra course while I'm at it. Spyglass Hill eats me alive at times though.Comment

If it's like a lot of Gamespot promotions, the code will only be good for one person. Once it's entered in, it won't be valid for anyone else. That's how the UFC codes worked anyway.Comment

Well Forza 3 is adding a 2nd disc so I still don't see the problem.Facebook - http://www.facebook.com/GMBBrian

Re: Tiger Woods 10 Golf Courses?
Making a 2nd disc for TW costs MS pennies. If it was so cost prohibitive than you would never see movies with 2 DVD's. Some movies have the film and special features on one disc while other have the film on one disc and the features on the 2nd disc. I've never heard complaints from that industry that the 2nd disc is too costly.
I'll bet my last dollar that in the next gen systems where the 360 will have storge space EA will make an excuse that extra courses will corrupt the game somehow so they offer more DLC. It's all our fault, if we keep buying they'll keep charging. DLC for the PS3 and 360 is a cash cow, with the Wii it's not nearly as lucrative.
The gaming industry just gets more creative with thier DLC like with RE5 where they charge for more multiplayer game modes which they could have easily put in the original game.Last edited by Seymour Scagnetti; 06-04-2009, 04:56 PM.Comment

Re: Tiger Woods 10 Golf Courses?
Stop it, you're making too much sense. This 2nd disc nonsense is just that, nonsense. Why stop adding DLC at a ridiculous fee as long as you get 10% of buyers to pony up. It's pure profit for them and it won't end anytime soon. If it wasn't a scam they wouldn't be charging $8 for each one.

It does not cost MS anything. They MAKE money when there is a second DVD. The expense is borne by EA and the end user because MS charges a licensing fee for EVERY DVD that is pressed in the game media. Forza is going to have 400 cars and 100 tracks. That is a HUGE amount of data. This would be like EA having 100 PGA TOUR Golfers rendered in the game as well as 100 courses. DLC does not make sense for Forza and I am betting their development budget has the funds to cover the additional licensing fees to MS or it is possibly MS is forgoing the licensing feest as Forza 3 will be a top tier title for MS, whereas Tiger likely never will be. Lastly, go compare sales numbers and I bet Forza on one platform (360) sells more than TW09 combined on all platforms which would make it much cheaper to produce with only ONE platform, not 3. Unfair comparison IMO....PC / Xbox One X

I'd say you're right on this Tim... Forza 2 sold 4 million copies. I'd bet Forza 3 will sell more than 5 million copies with what they've got in store for this year! Your breakdown makes a lot of sense to me.Duke Football? Hell yes it's Duke Football! --- Coach CutcliffeComment

Re: Tiger Woods 10 Golf Courses?
They charged $7.50 per course for TW09. Those were LICENSED Golf courses that are NOT free to produce. There has been no announcement on what DLC courses for TW10 will be, but I am guessing the cost per course will be lower as I have heard they will be offering a fair number more than 2 this year.

You could easily charge tracks and cars as DLC, actually DLC is tailor made for those 2 things, god knows every other game tries to do it from GTA to RE to SF4. Forza just chose not to, they're thinking about the consumer for a change. You're making it sound EA is some small company who only makes one game and we sure know that's not true. They are willing to pay Tiger Woods a gazillion dollars for his name but they're too poor to pay a few extra dollars for a 2nd disk. Something tells me the TW developement budget is probably quite large.
Lastly, yes they are licensed courses and cost money but somehow EA has no problem including 11 extra licensed courses for the Wii version, perhaps because DLC on the Wii will make them nothing compared to the 360\PS3 DLC cash cow. I always thought licensed courses cost the same whether they are in 720p or the inferior graphics on the Wii or am I missing something here.
I can guarantee you the DLC courses will not be cheaper than last year. Put yourself in the developer's shoes. If you know a small portion of gamers will pay for DLC and it's pure profit (99% of gamers will still buy TW if there's 16 courses instead of 20) then what would you do? That's what I thought. If the TW series wasn't making money hand over fist they would first drop Tiger Woods and then discontinue the game altogether.Last edited by Seymour Scagnetti; 06-04-2009, 10:14 PM.Comment

Re: Tiger Woods 10 Golf Courses?
While you present a valid argument, it's all based on presumptions and my bad on MS's expense on the 2nd DVD, I meant EA. You're presuming that MS is forgiving license fees but you have no proof of that. The TW series has been a long running franchise so you would think MS would forgo fees for them just as a goodwill because TW does sell alot less therefore MS is not sacrificing much in terms of waiving the fees. I have as much validity in that presumption as you do with MS waiving Forza fees.

Do YOU know how much the licensing fee is for a 2nd DVD? MS DISCOURAGES THIS. Ever heard of John Carmack? He went to make a 360 game and because the game content was so huge, he needed 2 DVD's to complete the game. MS would not waive the fee for his game, so the game was shelved as Carmack was not willing to take the hit on the added cost. Do you think the licensing fee was minimal? I think not.
The Wii courses are 30-50MB PS2 courses. 360/PS3 courses are 200-300MB each. Poor comparison. My guess is a comparable number of licensed courses will be available for the 360/PS3 as DLC compared to the Wii.
If EA offers for example 6-8 courses as DLC. Do you REALLY think they will price them as high as last year making 8 courses potentially as much as the entire game? Sorry, I don't buy that argument. Neither you nor I have the answer, but I cannot fathom them asking the same or more per course this year with more than 2 courses being released. We'll know for sure soon, won't we?PC / Xbox One X

Re: Tiger Woods 10 Golf Courses?
Ok fine. Then why not add a course creator so everyone can share and play more courses? Or is there a fee for that as well? lol Let me guess. The library of different grass, trees, fairways and greens would take up too much space as well. Sooner or later you have to add more courses somehow. Last year I think there were only 3 downloadable courses. Maybe they do add 8 or 9 this year but they still won't be playable in your career. If they were $2 or 3 a pop, I would not care. But at $5 a course, it's like buying another game. Also if you do pre-order for Gamestop, you do get Spyglass Hill for free. So there are actually 17 courses. I would like to see 20 to 25 though.Facebook - http://www.facebook.com/GMBBrian

TW09 had two DLC courses.
Everyone would like to see more courses on the DVD, but the 360's DVD is one of the limitations as well as the cost of developing and licensing new and previous courses. Adding a licensed PGA TOUR course is NOT free and it cost EA money to license these courses. A cost they pass on the to user just like any other software developer would.
Links 2004 offered a couple of NON-LICENSED DLC courses for 5$ back on 2003/2004. People complained THEN about the cost of NON-LICENSED courses. It is 5 years later and people are still complaining. I think $5 per course is a STEAL when you consider you can play it in ever mode other than Season offline mode. Opinions obviously vary....PC / Xbox One X
