Does anyone else miss the triple click system?

I know, with the addition of joysticks to console controllers, the triple click system has gone by the wayside. But with it has gone the ability to shank a shot, missing a fairway or green to the right or left, etc.

The triple-click did a good job, IMO, of replicating the difficulty of hitting a shot the right distance or straight. It was never a guarantee that you would pull it off. And I even remember the 17th at Sawgrass making you sweat it out with the triple click - too quick or too late and you're in the drink! Beautiful thing...

Am I alone in that I would prefer golf games these days ditch the new-generation but inappropriately simple/easy joystick for the triple click system?

Yeah, I like it too. Too bad that you can't use it on Tour Pro Mode.

Those were the days my friend... PGA Pro Tour 93, would regularily plunk 3-4 shots in the drink on the 17th before finally landing on the green. Great stuff.

TW 10 has a click meter, but it's only available on the two easiest settings. I use 3 click when I play TW on the PC. But for the console, the stick method is nice. It's actually tuned pretty well, even if it is easy to hit fairways.

I could never go back to clicking. It just isn't the same.

You prefer clicking on the PC? I find pushing the mouse the best and hardest method to use accurately until this year's Wii version.

I don't like clicking anymore either...but not a fan of TW's analog sticks....Just doesn't feel right to me, maybe this year's better, I dunno, but they've had trouble with this. Links felt better (IMO), more 1 to 1 with the swing and whatnot...

Doesn't matter, this year I'm really enjoying the Wii Motion Plus control, so I wouldn't give that up for 3 click at all...

3 click in TW 08 PC is actually less forgiving than the mouse method, even though the mouse is pretty difficult, yes. 3 click is also easier to use with my CPU setup.

Again, after playing TW 10 on the 360 for a good number of hours, I'm really impressed with the calibration of the stick. While tee shots are pretty easy, it's still possible to duff them bad if I'm not concentrating. But where the stick really shines is with pitches, chipping and putting. The developers did some super work with that end of the console game this year.

Personally I miss it and think it is a much better and much more difficult system than this 300+ yd. straight down the middle thumstick swing. I also think the new Hot Shots Golf system is much better than that in TW. I play on Tour pro and I think I have missed one fairway in 8 rounds which is totally unrealistic. No way with a 3 click system would you see driving accuracy as ridiculously high, or scores for that matter. The old PGA golf games for the Sega Genesis were much more simulation driven than the golf games now, and that is a sad thing IMO!

Try dropping your sweetspot through club tuning down into the high teens or even low teens and see how many 300+ yard drives you hit right down the middle. My breakover point is 18%; once I get below that nothing is guaranteed. Your mileage may vary, I've read others who've said they had to get down to single digits with the sweetspot to get this. Anyway, I see the club tuning, sweetspot adjusting feature as a "slider" that gives this game life that it otherwise wouldn't have for me.

As for clicking, PGA Championship Golf 1999 broke me of clicking forever. Once I saw how engaging a properly refined analog interface could be, I couldn't touch a click interface again. Clicking might produce more realistic results, but I don't feel that immersed into interface. I've tried it when I've had to, most recently in the Tiger Woods Online beta for the PC, but even when it's done right, it just feels so.... digital?

The 360 controller's thumbsticks aren't ideal for an analog interface of the degree needed for a golf swing. The Wii Motion Plus is a much better solution, but I think that Tiburon has done a pretty good job with what they've got to work with on the 360 (and I'd imagine it's the same on the PS3). Where they haven't picked up the ball yet is in incorporating the need for a rhythm governed swing in all console versions. That would make this game feel and play much more realistically and gratifying.

And BTW, the triple click option is still a part of Tiger Woods 10; it's only available in Beginner and Amateur though. I tried it in the demo just for kicks and found it much tougher to manage (and that was in Beginner) than the stick swing, but I still didn't feel as integrated into the game.

I will try that and see how it goes. Sounds much more challenging! I agree the swing stick adds to the immersion also, and I like it better for approach shots and chipping and putting. I love the game, just would like it to be a little more difficult, so I hope adjusting the sweet spot will add that aspect. And don't get me wrong, the game can be brutal with the right pin placement/wind/weather/green speed combination!
