    Links 2003 and Tiger Woods

I have played Tiger Woods 10 for a good week now and there are many aspects that make the game awesome, but it still lacks realism in scores, courses, and tournament feeling. Links 2003 is obviously more of a sim where the scores usually stay realistic and the courses appear more realistic because the courses are mainly in 2D, but the Tiger Woods franchise could take something away from Links and improve.

Tiger Woods 10 has the graphical power to make their courses look more realistic and more precise like on Links 2003. I have played several courses on both and honestly I am more impressed with Links 2003 a game that came out seven years ago. I love the 3D aspect of TW, but the precision of bunkers, trees, and the views of other holes on TW is sometimes awful.

Another thing Links 2003 does better than TW is control the scores of golfers. On TW it is rediculously easy to shoot below 60, hit 400 yard drives, and drain 80 foot putts. These things happen but only once in a great while not three or four times per round. At least for me Links 2003 has been a realistic sim. I have set up a PGA Tour schedule and my 72 hole totals have been very realistic. What else is awesome about this is your ability to customize your PGA schedule. You can go into every event pick the course, the exact condition, the purse, the trophy, and how big the field is. It's also awesome because you can find many of the real PGA courses online for download including Augusta National, making for a realistic Masters every year.

These are just a few things, but one thing I need to add that neither game has is a realistic tourny feel. Can we have a game where you play with someone else, a reacting crowd, smart announcers, and some emotion. Every other sports game seems so close to capturing emotion in their games yet golf seems to be thrown to the backburner.

That's not accurate unless you're playing on the lower difficulty levels and using Classic putting. On Tour Pro with precision putting (no meter) plus club sweetspots tuned way down, TW 10 is the toughest golf game I've certainly played. And if you use the powercap code, you can set your power attribute from 1 to 12 (I play using 5).

Links is obviously more of a golf sim and it was a great series for that. And I wish the TW developers would provide more flexibility and options for career mode. But it's still a fun game and it plays a very good game of golf.

Absolute nonsense unless you are playing Beginner difficulty....

As to the rest of your comments, apples versus oranges when it comes to console games versus PC games. PC's have always had the upper hand with customization. Your comments also highlight that what is important to you might not be important to others. I'll just leave it at that....

Im just hoping the game has a better PGA feel. They started doing that this year with the announcers mentioning when a leader makes a birdie or something, but other than that it still doesnt feel to real

The TW series never has, although Feherty and McCord did a much better job than the current duo. And it's odd, given other sports games have gone out of their way to try and capture the feel of the real thing as you said.

This game has more "inside the ropes of the PGA TOUR" feel to it than any previous Tiger I have played. While it is not like watching a telecast yet as there are only 2 voice talents commentating, it is better than previous years. And the ticker updates are a nice touch both offline and online...

You should have played the first Links or Links 386. Scoring below par on Harbour Town revolved around skill and course management. Nothing like the TW series.

I guess you did not play the online tournaments for Links 386 then because if you did not break the mid-50's, you could not compete....

People are trying too hard to hate on TW10.

It plays a really good game of golf if you take the time to get into it.

Play tour pro, and try a live tournament when they start capping them at 7 again. You won't be having 400 yard drives or 80 foot putts. Tour pro difficulty turns off all that extra power boost and ball spin.

I don't remember Links 386 having online features. I am pretty sure that back then (when it came out) people still owned 2400 baud modem. The internet back then was still only used by university/military. I remember buying the game in 1991. One of the first game to have SVGA resolution.

I guess you must be referring to Links 2003.

Nope. There was a dialup Links 386 online play service. I played it and it was just like I described it. I believe this same service was out for the original Links as well....

I'm not trying to hate on Tiger Woods at all I love the game. In my opinion there is nothing better than having two games of the same sport to balance you out allowing you to get bored less quickly. Today I played both TW and Links its a good balance. Its very similar to having both College Hoops and NCAA Basketball or back when we had Madden and 2k5. I really hope EA improves on things as the days go with TW 11 making it feel more like the actually PGA Tour.
How cool would it be to be playing on a Sunday at US Open at Pebble Beach next year along side Tiger Woods watching him hit and having to match his every shot to take down the title. That would be something we've never experienced in a golf title

TW 2000 for PC had Play Against the Pros that had this very same setup....It was incredible to play, but very time-consuming and costly for EA to produce. I am hoping EA takes the current Play the Pros and extends it to utilize ShotLink to allow users to play Tiger or any Pro shot for shot on any course in the game....

Now that would be pretty cool...I usually avoid playing any sort of CPU guy, but if I could load up the beginning of a final round at Augusta, the US Open, etc and be in the final group with Tiger, it'd be fun. Yeah, you'd know what he shot, but beating him is still another thing.

No, not a CPU guy, you would be playing shot for shot against Tiger's actual shots and scores in the tournament playing in a pairing with his likeness in the game....
