No-rain solution in career mode?
I've seen a few comments from people frustrated with the amount of rain in career mode. I just want to point out that I've played several tournaments and I haven't had any rain at all. I don't have Live, but I set up my career with Live Weather anyway, knowing Random produces a lot of rainy rounds. The option to change weather settings is available again when the first year of your career is done, in case you didn't save your profile and can't start over.Tags: None -
Re: No-rain solution in career mode?
Thank the Lord you can at least change the weather settings after the first year....I was close to just re-starting to change to Live Weather off the Random (ie RAINY) weather setting. lol
Thanks for the tip.GO 'HAWKS!

You bet. I simmed through a couple of seasons, and you're given the choice to re-select all your career gameplay options (weather, number of rounds, etc.) after each year is completed and before the following year starts. I don't know if Live Weather stays rainless every tourney, but it has so far. It seems like it's just a kind of default "sunny" setting.Comment

Re: No-rain solution in career mode?
Right, I realize that. I'm getting default and constant sunny weather -- every tourney is the same. I just thought that's a better option than tons of rain people are seeing with Random weather.Comment

Re: No-rain solution in career mode?
Some rain is desirable or the game gets tedious in another way. As soon as I heard that this year's game was going to have weather changes during a round I just knew that the TW devs would overdo it and give us too much rain to show off their new trick. Sure enough, that's what we got. Clearly, genuine Live Weather seems like the way to go, only some of us don't have the easy, constant internet access when playing unfortunately.Comment

Re: No-rain solution in career mode?
I've been playing video golf for close to 20 years and I've never played a golf game where I've chosen to play with the rain option on. Heck, was having rain even an option before a couple of years back? Anyway, I've never found sunny skies tedious. Guess I'm just an old-school cyber golfer.Last edited by baa7; 07-03-2009, 02:51 PM.Comment

Re: No-rain solution in career mode?
So far every tourney has been sunny skies, calm/moderate winds and average greens. I'm guessing that's the default setting for all tournaments. Is it ideal? No. But I'll take that over torrential downpours. PGA tourneys wouldn't even be played in the sort of weather EA has created for their rainy setting. Plus the green speeds in rain are unrealistically slow and annoying as heck. One more thing: with the crazy-low CPU scoring in Career mode, about the only chance I'll ever have of winning a tourney or two is if I'm playing in decent weather, so it works for me.Comment

Re: No-rain solution in career mode?
I have seen a wide variety of conditions, so being connected to Live makes a difference with Live Weather.....and most of the green speeds I have seen have been Fast to Very Fast....as far as the CPU scoring, the only tournament I haven't won was the first Major at Oakmont....
And you've mentioned a couple of times how you're winning most tourneys in career mode. I play on Tour level, precision putting with no meter and no grid. And the sweetspots on my expert clubs are tuned way down: wedges at 0, driver at 8, woods at 12. When I change those settings -- grid on, sweetspots at 30-40, etc. -- I can easily hit tons of fairways and one-putt a number of greens. Not to criticize, but anyone who consistently wins tourneys in career mode and is shooting -25 and lower every time, can't possibly be playing with sim-like settings.
Unless you're watching the swing feedback meter while you're taking your shots. I've noticed it's 300% easier to keep my shots straight that way. Which is why I don't look at the meter when I swing; I keep my eyes on the golfer animation instead.Last edited by baa7; 07-05-2009, 07:50 AM.Comment

Re: No-rain solution in career mode?
Wow, did not realize this thread was only for discussion regarding non-Live users. Just making the point that XBox Live enables Live Weather to work as intended....
I played the first 3-4 tournaments with grids on. Played the Major with them off and lost my first tournament. I play with ~30% sweetspots on all clubs except wedges because if I play with lower sweetspots, I am spraying the ball all over the course, mostly with OB-like results.
Lastly, I do not believe the swing feedback we currently have available is sufficient enough to allow for consistent play with the meter off. Opinions are numerous and they do vary. You seem happy with the way you play and that does not diminish the enjoyment of the way I play.....PC / Xbox One X

Re: No-rain solution in career mode?
It isn't. I'm just making it clear I don't have Live, yet I'm using the Live Weather option in Career mode. And I'm not getting any rain, if too much rain is an issue for people. Just another option to consider.Last edited by baa7; 07-05-2009, 01:13 PM.Comment

Re: No-rain solution in career mode?
Of course. But the question I was addressing had to do with game difficulty options. It can be next-to-impossible to win tournaments, depending on the sweetspot settings and the clubs one uses. With the sweetspot tuned way down, it's barely possible to break par every round. I had my driver sweetspot set at 20 and I was hitting 85% FIR's, so I recently lowered it to 8%. I also went back to my advanced clubs for a round, and couldn't miss with my irons. The game plays much easier when using advanced clubs as opposed to expert clubs.Comment
