Putting Frustrations!!!
Anyone else having a god awful time putting? I swear I've almost thrown my controller throguh my TV at a couple of different points in time with the putting, precision and classic mode! Seems much harder this year!Tags: None -
Re: Putting Frustrations!!!
I find putting a bit more difficult, both in reading breaks and judging distance. I'm not rolling in 30-footers with regularity anymore, but it seems fair.
It's pitching that's killing me. The ball seems to fly out at all sorts of angles, even if I hit it dead on.Comment

Re: Putting Frustrations!!!
Is this a PS3 problem? Because I am not having these issues with the 360. I did read Divotmaker's comments that the PS3 controller was awfully sensitive.Comment

Re: Putting Frustrations!!!
Skills help if you are missing putts due to mi****s. If you are hitting square and missing I have found a list of distances, elevation, and how hard I need to hit the putt to roll it 2-3 feet by really helps on very fast greens. It takes a while to build up a decent list but knowing how fast the ball is going to be rolling at the hole helps read the break. Having a 2-3 foot come backer instead of a 20-30 foot come backer helps the score even more!Comment

Re: Putting Frustrations!!!
Hopefully there's a patch for this as it's killing my short game and with the overly sensitive putting on the PS3 it's gonna be really difficult to break par with any consistency as it's overly difficult in a cheap kind of way.Comment

Re: Putting Frustrations!!!
I do notice if you don't follow through straight with a putt, you will miss it by a lot, but that isn't way far off what we had before.
As for pitching, I've had tons of issues as well. The ball seems to fly out every time with no control.
I still wonder if all this comes down to the new XP system.Go Sabres!Comment

Re: Putting Frustrations!!!
I am wondering if sidehill lies are having more than the intended effect on shorter shots. Most; if not all; of my "where the heck is that going?" shots have gone with the sidehill lie. Maybe whatever code is driving the sidehill lies either isn't taking shot type/distance into account or is going they wrong direction. Not much difference between a x5 and a x.5 in a line of code.Comment

Re: Putting Frustrations!!!
The major thing I think that is wrong with the putting is that they made it harder to sink a 3 footer as opposed to a 10 footer. With short putts you have to bring the joystick back and forth quicker and it's much easier to go offline with the joystick and then you miss badly. With shorter putts they should allow more room for error because of the quicker back and forth motion needed. I used Tiger, who is rated at 98 putting, and I still flubbed a couple of short putts in a round. I didn't feel that much more confident using Tiger at 98 than my CAG with a 15 putter rating. So building up your golfer didn't seem to help me much.
They need to patch this quickly because any other golf games I've ever played leave a bigger sweet spot on shorter putts as it makes sense. If they don't the putting game will be an exercise in futility. They also seemed to put too much emphasis on uphill slopes and when it rains. It seems that a putt with a 3 inch slope feels like 3 feet and with any rain you seem to need to use a driver to putt it to the hole.
It's too bad such a simple thing got screwed up because with true aim this game feels incredible and really makes you think on every shot.Comment

Re: Putting Frustrations!!!
I think the grid is different too. One of the skills you can add XP to is reading the greens. According to the description it makes the grid more detailed or something?
I've noticed I'm mis-reading a lot of putts. I think the grid just is different somehow. I am finally starting to figure it out. I was reading too much break in almost all the time.
Short putts do seem to be tough. They seem to break more.Go Sabres!Comment

Re: Putting Frustrations!!!
Well my pitching has improved as soon as I got over 20 in accuracy so that's good enough for me because all I want to do is get power up into the 80's and putting into the 50's range as I at least miss a couple of 3 footers every round that I shouldn't be. I don't like building up my golfer too much to keep the difficulty up and I don't play online much.Comment

Re: Putting Frustrations!!!
It might be, I'm on 360 and while things are a little tough without much Xp, I am not too far off what I could do in TW10 on tour pro. I put a bunch of XP into putting and I am doing fairly well with it.
I do notice if you don't follow through straight with a putt, you will miss it by a lot, but that isn't way far off what we had before.
As for pitching, I've had tons of issues as well. The ball seems to fly out every time with no control.

Now if I could play one tourney without hurricane winds the whole round and rain that always seems to come on the back nine I would be happy.Comment

Re: Putting Frustrations!!!
No you can't. That really sux. You would have to start over. I assume you can start over the season with the same CAG or would you have to build up a new golfer which would be really painful.Comment
