What's up with online ranked play?

I've been playing a lot of ranked games...just regular stroke play. The thing is my golfer isn't very built up with stats and I'm still kinda struggling with the game. I'm probably anywhere from +5 to +10 depending on the course, the conditions, and how much I've had to drink.

I always put in the search options to have only golfers that are the same skill level as me, and sure enough I only play level 1 golfers. The thing is that in every round I play there is always one "super golfer." The culmination was the round I played a little while ago on Wolf Creek where one guy was -13 on the front 9. He quit before the back nine. I guess he was tired of us duffers.

Anyways, how do they determine rank? Is it because he has a highly leveled up golfer and just hasn't played much online yet? Or when he quits like that does he not gain rank..in other words is he one of those weirdos that gets off on smashing lower skilled players? I'm just not sure. Thankfully there's usually somebody in the foursome to be competitive with me as I shoot in the 80s.

The game is fun as hell and addictive too. I just would like to truly get matched up with a foursome at my skill level.
