Some serious issues with PS3 version

First off I want to say I am enjoying TW11 more than many in recent past. However, when
playing on the PS3 I have found some really odd stuff happening. I am curious if this is just me or are other having similar issues?

Last night my neighbor and I were playing. On no less than 4 occasions in one round
when we arrived at our ball, it was no where near where it appeared to be when we hit it.
My first thought on the first occourence was that he was OB and the ball
had been moved, but unless OB is like 6 inches into the rough on this hole, the probably not. The second through third were more pronounced. The second time it happened
my neighbor hit the ball and it went just left of the green about 2 yards into the rough. When he got his second shot, he was suddenly about 75 yards back from the hole and in the woods. The third and fourth were very similar in that he or I hit the ball straight down the fairway, when we got our second shot, we were many yards from where we landed and often in tough situations like trees or bunkers.

    Anyone else seen this happen?

Yes I have seen this many times, more with cpu golfers than myself, but certainly with me too. Hard to figure how it gets put on the market in that condition. Tee shot is clearly in the rough, go for 2nd shot and miraculously its on the fairway.

It has nothing to do with PS3. I have both, ps3 and xbox360. I play tw on the xbox as I find the analog sticks on ps3 sort of sloppy, loose, they seem harder to control, for me anyway. But yup, I see the same problems on XBox that you are seeing on PS3.

The game programming often re-positions your ball depending on the lie, and that was the case last year as well. Say you drive it into the trees and onto the pine needles. The game will re-position your next shot on the fairway fringe or light rough. But hey, at least it doesn't auto-putt balls from gimmie distance like Links 2004 did, right?

The one example you mentioned of the ball being re-postioned 75 yards backwards sounds like a glitch.

Yes I have seen that with the extreme conditoins in the past, if you hit it where there is no graphical data, they call it ob and or repostion it. But this year I have seen shots that are merely 5 yards or less into the rough, but then on the fairway. No obstructions or OB etc. Seems it needs some work, not a huge deal, but does detract from realism some. Have even seen one or two instances of going into a trap, then not being in the trap for the follow up shot.

That's up for debate IMO. I'm a long-time Links PC golfer, and the fact the TW series takes such liberties re-positioning your shots reeks of arcade to me. Still, not as bad as Links 2004 where the programming would auto-putt all your gimmies. That was much worse.

I basically agree, it's unacceptable. Seems some people here think you are 'flaming' if you speak your mind, so I try to tone it down some.

I played links forever and oddly do not remember it ever auto sinking putts. I remember there was a choice of turning on or off gimmes, but don't remember it sinking them. Oh well.

I do think it's safe to assume ea will not fix this particular issue of repostioning, but fingers crossed.

I'm talking about Links 2004 for the Xbox. That game didn't have the option to turn off auto-gimmies, whereas the PC version did of course.

Regardless of my complaint, I can more or less forgive the TW developers for it, and that's because they've done a lot to make the game much more sim the past 2-3 years. But I agree: I don't think some of the more arcade aspects (attribute boosts, etc.) are going to disappear anytime soon. There are too many young people EA has to consider when developing these games.

I believe some of this re-positioning is driven by the actual ball lie and where it is in relation to trees or bushes and whether the lie could actually be played and the Golfer rendered without running into physics issues of the golfer touching the tree or bush, etc. I asked about this during TW Community day and that was pretty much how it was described to me, They actually showed me what happens when the ball lands in certain lies off the fairway and there were distortions with the Golfer making it impossible to even hit a shot. They would love nothing more than to have you it from under a tree left-handed with a right-handed club to punch out of the pine straw, but there are current limitations in 3D rendering and 3D physics that place limitations on where shots can be hit. it has nothing to do with arcade.
