OUTRAGE over DLC courses?

I get what you are saying EG. For me the fact that DLC courses are a part of a career mode and if you don't pay for them you can't play parts of a mode of the game you already paid for. That to me is tough to swallow as a consumer of past TW games.

Re: OUTRAGE over DLC courses?
Therein lies the inevitable logical result of DLC, which most everyone was concerned about when the consoles first made the jump to relying on it...it's one thing to offer additional content to a complete game to extend the experience (expansion packs, a-la "Undead Nightmare" or the 2 GTA packs), but the fear was always that publishers would intentionally neuter a game so as to scratch out more profit by releasing previously-in-the-game content as DLC. And here we are at that day. EA is leading the charge on that one (extra/throwback uniforms, courses, etc.), and it's even crossing over into their non-sports games (Mass Effect 2, where the "DLC" was actually already on the disc, just locked down until you paid extra)...although not to single-out EA, they're definitely not the only ones (I think the map packs on CoD are a rip-off, and Capcom appears to have hamstrung the roster of "MvC3" so as to release periodic DLC of characters/outfits...).
As has been pointed out, you have a choice - don't buy the content. Day 1 DLC is, to me, a pretty clear indication of a strategy to double-charge gamers for content. I would say if it's true that certain parts of the career mode can't be participated in if you don't download the DLC, don't even buy the friggin' game. That clearly crosses a line in my opinion. It's clearly a case of holding back content that should be part of a complete package to extract additional revenue from gamers.
Outrage is warranted. But hey, it's a free country - if you're having fun and enjoy the DLC, more power to you...Comment

It does give me a little fear of what comes next, but given the choice for this years game I would choose the way it is over not being able to use DLC in career. But that is largely because they priced the DLC where it became an instant purchase for me. They called my bluff.Comment

Re: OUTRAGE over DLC courses?
Man, some people will just always complain. The number of courses on the disc has not changed in years, you always get around 16 on the PS3/360. The 360 disc can not hold anymore, there is no more space. I did my fair share of complaining in years past when each course was $10. This year it is the cheapest they have ever been, only $2.78 per course if you buy both packs. Yet people still complain about the price.
It sucked in years past that you had to wait months and months for the courses to slowly trickle out as DLC, now we get them all on day one. Yet people still complain.
It sucked not being able to use the DLC course in career mode at all in years past so, they make a few events that use some DLC in career mode to address this. Is it the way most of us dreamed it would be implemented, no but, it is better then nothing. So now we can use some DLC in career mode yet people now complain about it.
The "not a complete game" argument is laughable. You can achieve all goals and complete every mode in the game without buying any DLC, you just have to skip a few events in career mode.
I just don't see what there is to complain about. They dropped the price, which is what we asked for; they added them to career mode, which is what we asked for; they released them all on day one, which is what we asked for. Can't complain when we get what we asked for, at least I asked (hoped) for it.
All the money people spend on map packs, some of those maps being old ones from previous games, and now people want to complain about EA providing more course then they are able to fit on the disc. We could be stuck with the 16 on the disc but instead, I know have access to 35 courses. No complaints from me.
Now, if you want to complain about how everything else is for sale in the game, like sponsor level ups and junk in the pro shop, I'm right there with you on that one.Last edited by rolltide1017; 03-31-2011, 04:03 PM.Comment

Re: OUTRAGE over DLC courses?
But what do they want to achieve now? They magically find away to put 19 more courses on a disc that has no more room? Or maybe they don't want any DLC courses to ever be released and we are stuck with only 16 again, or have to buy an ugly looking Wii version to get more.Comment

My issue is (and the reason I'm holding off purchasing) "forcing" the user to buy DLC courses to get the full career mode experience. I can't fathom having to skip events in the career mode because I didn't buy DLC.
That would be the same in my mind as turning the super bowl stadium in Madden into DLC then saying that if you don't buy it you have to skip the Super Bowl?!?!?!?!? If that were to happen heads would roll and within a week it would become "Free-Bonus" DLC.Moderator

Re: OUTRAGE over DLC courses?
The one thing that is an unquestionably legitimate complaint is that not buying DLC can have an adverse affect on gameplay.
To wit: The top 100 in world rankings get to play in The Masters. You are ranked 99th. You miss a tour event due to not having the needed DLC course. Now you are ranked 102nd. Better luck next time.Comment

My issue is we will most likely have to pay for these same courses all over again next year.Facebook - http://www.facebook.com/GMBBrian

Re: OUTRAGE over DLC courses?
Source? Second, if that is the case that should have no bearing on the PS3 disk space seeing how it is a Blu-Ray disk. I in general have no problem with EA adding DLC courses or charging for them.

And it's NOT the same at all as saying you have to DL the Super Bowl in Madden. From what the devs and other gamers are saying (and I'll take their word for it since i haven't made it to the PGA tour yet) is that the DLC events are optional and not required to complete the career requirements.Comment

Trust me, a bluray disk has room for way more courses than you realize.Comment

Punishing folks who pass on DLC is a slap in the face. DLC should be a bonus for those who buy it and not have a negative impact if you don't.
I love the game otherwise...this is my only issue with TW 12.Orbis Non SuficitComment

Re: OUTRAGE over DLC courses?
EA can only rip people off if people of their own volition are paying for these courses. You have a choice in other words.
Links golf back in the day used to charge 15-20 bucks for a disk with a new course on it. I only bought those courses when they came out with a 3-fer bundle a year after they were first released.BeyondMediaOnline.comComment

Re: OUTRAGE over DLC courses?
You gotta be a sucker to buy all that. If there's no room on the disc then let us download the other courses for free.
I already made my decision not buy after the demo, this only confirms it.Comment
