Tiger Woods PGA TOUR 13 - First Controller-Free, Voice Enabled, Body Tracking Sim

The "Masters Edition" will feature all of the content from the regular "Tiger 13," but will have its own box art that is Masters centric, plus five additional golf courses and the ability to play on Augusta's practice facility. "There will be more additional content that we will reveal at an additional date, and the pricing is only about ten dollars more, so it is a really good value."

"Kinect is going to be really cool. It's essentially going to be the first controller-free, voice enabled and body tracking sports simulation to support the Xbox 360 Kinect. This is a big deal because people are probably getting tired of playing darts and ping pong.

"Now when you combine the accuracy of our game and our courses that are accurate down to 6 millimeters, and you combine that with the Kinect technology, you're really going to feel like you're standing on Amen Corner."

I wonder if the Collectors edition will be limited to the PS3 again like last year.

    I hope not.

I saw this mentioned again somewhere else, and they didn't qualify the Collector's Edition as being PS3 only. The feature even stressed that the Augusta practice facility would only be on the Collector's Edition. I think they'll probably have two disks for the 360 version to get this done.

On the Kinect front, they're going to have to go a long way to sell me on the Kinect working well with this game. The Move implementation was a huge disappointment to me in Tiger 12. I'm open to the idea, but I'm going to be a very hard sell on this.

Even if Kinect is implemented perfectly (about 1% chance of this happening) do you really want to be standing up for hours on end playing a golf game. Unless you are at least a scratch golfer (and then some) you would be unable to play career mode because if it perfectly mimicked your golf swing you won't be breaking 100 on Augusta so you're stuck playing practice rounds unless you can have friends playing every nite with you and make it a party game.

Motion controls are what it was for the Wii. Simple fun when you have people over. That's why Wii bowling remains a very popular motion control game to date even though it was the earliest one. It's best used on these type of games and doesn't really translate well into deeper sports games like TW which you will end up playing hours on end sometimes. What do Wii gamers play the most besides Wii bowling? The Super Mario games because they can lie on the couch and use limited motion control here and there and not have to break a sweat. People who go to work and school all day usually want to plop on the couch and relax when they are gaming, not standing up and exerting energy all nite. Just my 2 cents as to why motion control will never really catch on even if implemented well.

Yes, you make a good point. I can't see them getting it down such that it would recognize the difference between a scratch golfer and an 8 handicapper (like myself). If they did, it would present the problem you've identified. They're going to have a tough time figuring out how to distinguish a good swing from an average swing with the Kinect, at least to the extent needed in this game.

I would be willing to play a round or two a day standing up in front of the TV, but I'd also like to kick back and play with the gamepad from my recliner as well. I don't know how typical I am of gamers, but I do know my neighbors get a lot of action out of their Kinect using the dance and exercise games. I just haven't seen anything that made me want to take the plunge.
