    Getting Pumped for Links 2004

I've been holding out for Links 2004 for a while now, but I've been itching for a good console golf fix, so I went out and rented TW2004 (xbox) this weekend. While I do enjoy more of a sim experience, I was willing to accept some of the over the top stuff that I'd seen in some of the TW2004 previews. All that aside, I was totally disappointed in the game. It was far too easy. Is it even possible to hook or slice a shot into the rough or OB? It seemed like it was all just a matter of club selection and distance control (which I didn't feel like I had all that much control of either). Like I read in someone else's post, I didn't feel like I was responsible for making good shots. In my first 3 hours of play, I sank two aces and two eagles from more than 120yds out...just by taking dead aim and moving the analog stick back and then forward. I got mildly excited at the first one, but after that, I realized it was nothing special. Those "once in a lifetime" shots are what makes golf a great game. When they become "once in a round", the whole game suffers.

I'm actually an old fan of the EA series on the PC. In fact, I played on the EA Sports Internet Tour in '98 (When it was PGA Tour Golf, not Tiger Woods Golf) and '99. I won trips to a bunch of PGA events and lots of cash (done bragging now), so EA and TW Golf have a special place in my heart. But even still, I'm totally disappointed in TW2004.

That being said, I'm totally excited about Links 2004. Apparently it is going to have a much less forgiving analog swing, which should make for some more interesting play. It's also incorporating a swing meter which will be nice to have some sort of visual indicator for distance control. I think online will be sweet too. I don't think golf is subject to online cheese as other sports games are. What's nice also is that you'll be able to compete in online touraments without having to play live against someone (I assume this is the case).

Found some good screens/movies/info over at teamxbox.com. Check it out. And if you find any new info, please post here.

TW 2004 is a lot more realistic on the PC. I haven't played the console version this year (I did play 2003 on PS2) and it's not as arcadey. I enjoyed 2003 last year, but I like how 2004 is playing on the PC, I can easily mess up the mouse swing and hit a draw or fade when I didn't intend to, throwing me into a bunker or rough.

Well the first thing I did when I bought Woods this year was turn off all the cheats and tips and helping options besides the wind gage. You have to turn the wind on and get rid of all the help cheats that come defaulted on. Then come back to me and tell me that its easy to hit the ball straight and that your kicking but. It took me about 6 different times of golfing against Ty Tryon to beat his *** with no assists on. I have also sliced plenty of shots into the rough with the wind and all assists off. Give that a try.

Hmm after some of the early review scores I am starting to get concerned. I just wish I could read the reviews to see what the issues are.
