so let me get this straight....

So $40 bucks on the PS store gets you the remaining courses that are available with the exception of the pre-order bonus courses if you have the collector's edition? However, once you buy them you are not allowed to use them in any "exhibition" golf rounds or in the career mode unless you use coins gained from other courses to buy a round on these new courses and then you have to master those courses in order to play them consistently? Is this all accurate? Thanks for the help.

crap, at work right now otherwise would give a straight answer... if my recollection serves me, yes on exhibitions, but you have to use coins for your career and also earn the right to play in them (being ranked in the top 125, 100, etc.)

If you spend money, they are there to use, exhibition, online, etc... I think this is what I read... Hate for anyone to waste $40 though when if you play a round or two a day, in a week, you could probably have most if not all unlocked for free...
If you keep bowing down and praising the developers, (NHL series) nothing they give us the consumer will ever be a "finished" product. Take a stand, it is your money!!!.

Paying $100 for a video game is ridiculous, not being able to do what you want after you purchase it is bordering on larceny. If I buy the game, I'll just grind through it to open the courses, it gives the coins some real value which is kind of cool.

Exactly... It takes 6 rounds to get gold on a course, then you get more coins with that, plus pins, etc... The coins add up fairly quickly, so buying rounds at courses is fairly easy, and after 6 rounds, if you get gold, then you have it opened for unlimited... A little time investment is needed, but I would rather spend some time, which accrues coins and XP, rather than jump right into and not be able to compete with an out of the box golfer with little XP (unless you use a specific golfer)... The have gold on 8 courses now, and it was done in 48 rounds in the 3 days of early release (playing the career mode)... The only one that has taken me longer than 6 rounds was Augusta, which I will be on round 7 this evening and should get the 7 par or betters I need...

I'm under the impression from the game's menus that if you buy the courses with money, you can play them whenever you want without needing to spend coins.

The coins are only for if you want to play them without paying real money.

That said, I could be wrong as I have no intention of paying for extra courses this year.

Yeah...I bought the CE and the 11 course DLC and all the courses are available to me right now. The only course(s) I cant play and have to buy with coins are Emerald Dragon and Doral(ps3 exclusive)

this is my understanding as well. i don't have the game yet (few more hours..) but there's no way they would make you wait once you paid for them. that would cause some Serious backlash.

If you purchase DLC courses with real money.. They are yours to do with as you please.... No need to spend "Coins" to play..... The Mastery of those courses would work the same as the on disc courses you get....

If you decide not to purchase the DLC... you can download the course and would need to purchase rounds with "coins" if you do that enough times and master the course, you then have the course for Free.....

Think "Freemium" games for the IPad...

Thanks for the help guys...I hate the idea of paying for extra courses in general. However, I am too busy this year to take the time to open them by myself. I would have had the time last year if they had the option. I have the game pre-ordered, but I am still on the fence with picking it up. I have not read too many good reviews yet, and when I played the demo I was not a fan of the new putting system. I guess it would just take some time to become more familiar with it. So far I have enjoyed the new swing system though.

I currently buy NHL and MLB: The Show every year...but I am trying to stick to a Madden, NBA, NCAA, and Tiger Woods every two or three years philosophy to save money.

You sound like me, I am an every other year TW and NCAA purchaser, with this year being the year to purchase... I have to say that TW13 is a much improved game over 11, and I had to get used to the putting system, but once I did, it was fine... I still miss the occasional 7 footer, that causes me to pull hair out because I lined it and thought I hit it perfect, but it is what it is... GOLF!!!

I am impressed with this years, from the look, the feel, the DLC and the ability to either purchase are acquire with a time investment rather than spend money. Very well done from EA... I have read reviews also and question several I have read as if they have no business doing the review of the game...

The bottom line for me is the premise of Country Clubs... AWESOME feature for the fact that with daily and weekly tourneys, I am not chasing the 3-4 guys that EVERY friggin course score 20-25 under par (like that would happen) and can play against guys scores that 1. I know them and 2. have more realistic numbers, though still somewhat inflated... Online is crisp, haven't lagged out with the disk as of yet, the framerate is fine, some slow spots, but that is not a deal breaker for me...

I just wouldn't believe everything you hear or read from reviews, and listen to the community who plays it... If you aren't sure, rent it first, as I did last year with TW12, and decided not to go against my every other year principal, the Masters did not seal the deal for me... The good thing is, this will take me to 15 and I am sure like with 11, people are like me that decide that it is an every other year purchase...

This is encouraging. I did rent it for 2 days. I got to set up my guy last night and play a bit of the tiger legacy mode. I forgot that they were giving us XP to add to our golfer to start out from last year so that was a nice little surprise. I rented 12 two times during the winter break this year and got 50,000 XP.

Re: so let me get this straight....

Yeah, that was a good perk I missed out on... As for reviews, I take them with a grain of salt if I read them at all... What may float someone elses boat, may not float mine, so the only review I need is a quick demo or rent to check it out for myself...

A lot of reviewers for sports game particularly are critical of games being the same year after year and the way I see it is, GREAT!!! If they have it close to perfect, why change it? If you change the engine, it pretty much gurantees 2-3 years of major bugs to be worked out... MLB The Show every year some clown reviews it and says Same Ole Same Ole, well, to me that is great news, because I know they fined tuned some areas while leaving the game alone for all intents and purposes...

NHL is another, and one where developers seem to listen to critics and it F's the game up every third year... They don't need to go to the drawing board, it screws it up and when they get it right, they take it away... NHL10 was perfect post patches... They revamped it in 11, saw issue after issue in 11, then tweaked it and added a new hitting system in 12, again, flaws are exposed almost every game, next year will be good as they will have three year to get right the existing engine then they will screw it up again with NHL14... Just par for that course because people can't leave well enough alone...

Golf, what more is there to do??? Add seabirds??? It is golf, if you don't like the same ole same ole, I say then don't buy it, but people will because they want to play online, and it seems online stops about two years after release forcing you to get a new one...

Back to TW13... I love it, and saying that, I already know I will NOT buy next years because not enough courses will be added to justify that expense, especially when online features will be available for the following year for 13 anyway...

NHL I couldn't do this because I play a lot of club games and you need to purchase to play against people (unless you want to play against the same 200-300 people who didn't upgrade)... I would be willing to pay $60 for a roster and online update, if they just didn't touch the game once they perfected it, which they did in 10, and now we are a year away from seeing the perfect NHL game once agin on the current engine model...

I understand your stance and for the most part, I agree with you but at the same time, I understand the other side of the argument.

A lot of people don't see a few minor engine tweaks & a roster update as being worth their $60 so the publishers/developers need to add in those back of the box items that make people think they're getting $60 worth of value.

At the same time though, I understand your comment because sports don't really change much from year to year. How much has professional golf as a sport really changed since last March & how much is the sport really going to change by next March?

The people who complain about a sports game not changing enough from one year to the next never really seem to ever come up with a good response to "How much do you expect the game to change in a year when it's based on a sport that has barely changed in the past year?".
