The most important thing to remember is that green grids and putt previews will be disabled during putts in Simulation. To read greens accurately, make sure to look down at your ball before addressing the shot (by pressing down on your left analogue stick). From here, you’ll want to read the break and slope of the putt. The break can partly be determined by if the ball is below your feet or above your feet. If you are a right-handed golfer (we’ll assume for this article that you are, if you’re a leftie – like me, then just reverse it), having a ball below your feet means you’re standing on a break. That means your putt will begin its journey going left to right. If it is above your feet, it’ll move from right to left to start off. Next, you’ll want to move your aiming marker around to see where the course dips on the way to the hole. This is important to judge where the break stops, or bends, on the way to the cup.

For the slope, use the following rule:

For every degree or inch of uphill slope or downhill slope, add or detract about a foot with your aiming marker.

This is a common rule used by most Tiger pros, and while it may not hold completely true for every single putt, it will leave you close, if not in, most of the time if you read the break correctly.
I've heard this "patience is a virtue" junk all my life. I'm happy to say I have no virtue, no scruples, and no desire to wait too long for anything. In my humble opinion instant gratification takes too long!

It's going strong. We're a pretty dedicated bunch at Bushwood...the more the merrier!

If you pick up the game, I'd highly recommend going for the Historic for the extra courses. We play our tourneys across pretty much all of the courses, including the DLC courses.

Now if we could only figure out the 1.2 degrees below feet or above feet and how much to move the aiming marker!

I can't tell you how many putts have literally died right on the lip of the cup because i am off on my read by a fraction. So frustrating.

Thanks guys. Your info on putts is very helpful. I think my biggest issue is figuring out what different types of putting strokes will do. Example I have a 7-10 ft. 1 inch uphill putt above my feet. Right handed. So I out the marker about two marks out side the right of the cup. I then power through my follow through. Then the putt doesn't move right to left and i miss long. If I do a slow or perfect putt, it will trail right to left in front of the cup. It happens so much. Yes all my skill points are going toward putting.

One thing i've learned is you have to take into account the type of stroke you plan to make. If i know my tendency is to overswing on putts, then i will make sure to adjust my distance (example 20 foot putt, i'll put it at 18 or 19) and then let my putting stroke get me the extra foot or 2 of roll i need.

Also, certain putts i simply take the break out and hammer them in even if their is a .1-.5° of break in it. Anything more than that and i'll adjust my aim a bit and then still hammer it in.

imho, the only way to get a feel for YOUR stroke is to practice putting over and over like the pros do. (not any one else's stroke, or exactly where to point your aiming cursor vesus how much degree of tilt/slope). if you're struggling with putting and you own the historic edition and you're not using the putting green to try 10/20, heck even 50 putts at practice (per day), then you're really missing out on some valuable lessons that no one on the board can give you in text.

I have the Historic, and I've used the driving range/practice area, but I have to admit I wasn't aware there is a practice putting green. Cool.

True everybody is different. My tip that I haven't seen mentioned: if my aiming marker at the cup says 3in below cup I don't adjust the length. That's my general rule 3ft. I always add 3ft past the hole, if the cup is down 2 inches I add a ft, down 1 inch add 2 ft. Up 3in add 6 feet. You get the idea.

This changes your break points and angles so it may not work for you, you may blow putts by the hole. My thinking especially for short putts is your hitting it firm, and removing chances of missing low.

For the 1ft-2ft above always always move your 1ft per inch, but add another 5-6 feet instead of general rule of 3. You will find a lot more sinking or missing by a ft or 2 instead of dieing on the lip. You'd rather miss 2 ft long than 6 inches short.

I tell you what, I do not like Royal Birkdale, that is a deceitful little course. Oh, it don't look to hard on the outside but for some reason I was just not able to put the ball close enough for a reasonable birdie shot. I struggled to get to -2 on the daily yesterday and then my next career event was on Birkdale and I had the worst round I've had in a while with a +5, missed the cut. My next career tournament was at Kiawah and I crushed that course with a -9 in the first round thanks to calm winds (chance to get my first Web.com Tour win). I will not be visiting Birkdale again anytime soon, unless it is used in a CC tournament. I wanted to throw my controller through the TV.

I didn't do well on Birkdale either. It seems like breaks weren't consistent on the greens. If it said it was below your feet at address, it seemed like it would switch at the hole, making the greens much tougher to read.

However, on the weekly tourney this week, I was the leader after round 1 when I finished last night. That may not hold up, but it was exciting to be ahead of Tandor and some of the other top Bushwood players, even if only for an instant, lol.

Damn these water drops. On last hole in daily hit in water, drop is placed on hill in the pine. End up with 10 on hole. I was escorted off the course and there is a petition to ban me from the par 3 course for life. I may of hit a spectator with my wedge. I plead temporary insanity. I was planning to go on the par 3 tour of champions.

Par 3 Augusta wasn't really that hard for today's CC, but I just couldn't make a birdie putt to save my life.
