I really enjoyed TW2003 but I didnt like the ability to put spin on the ball after the shot. The graphics were very good but the game seemed way too easy. Still, I enjoyed the game.
Recently, I decided I wanted to buy a new golf game. I checked some online reviews and these forums and got the impression that TW2004's gameplay is pretty much the same while Links is more of a simulation.
So last night I rented Links 2004. I looked 3 places for TW but it was not in. Probably 20 copies of it and not one available. Meanwhile with Links I found one copy of it available and luckily it was in.
I took it over to a friends house (he is an avid golfer, I like golf, but am not very good) and we popped it in. We created ourselves and started out on the middle difficulty setting, intermediate I believe. We both found the game to be pretty good. The options in create a golfer were average, but sufficient.
After we completed one round of golf, we were both impressed and wanted to play on the highest level of difficulty but could not find a way to change it--kind of a pain but we had to re-create ourselves.
In my opinion, on the highest level of difficulty this game is absolutely top-notch. It seemed so much like real golf it was scary! It was the first time I had ever played a golf game where a shot is completed going on pure timing of the backswing. (no power meters or triple clicking) Putting, chipping, driving, it is all as close to perfect as I have experienced on any video golf game.
Upon completion of our 2nd round we were having a blast and ready to enter a tourny to play for some money. This is where I got a little upset. I couldnt find the option for 2 people to enter the same tournament! Please tell me I am overlooking something. If this is not possible, I will be pretty dissapointed.
Overall, Links is the best golf game I have ever played to date. If you are considering this game, do yourself a favor and pick it up!
