I know it's fashionable to bang on EA, and say, "EA SUX!" and "Lazy EA!!", but when you look back on the days from whence we've come (Links 386 anyone?), TW14 is a darned fine golf game.
I grew up playing Leaderboard Golf on my Atari 800XL, a little Jack Nicklaus Golf, then Arnold Palmer Golf on Genesis, PGA on Genesis, and the Links series, of course - and then onto the Tiger Woods series.
While they were all good in their own way, I think it's amazing how far we've come, and how polished TW14 is. I still marvel at some of the graphics... the early morning games are my favorites, and this year's version (to me), has really hit the sweet spot difficulty-wise.
The great number of courses; the customizing options (face, build, equipment; clothing, etc); the weather effects; the control. The commentary sucks, admittedly - I don't know why it's SO freaking hard for them to do that well. But overall I really like the game.
Many complain that each year is just a slight update to the previous year's version - fair enough. Frankly I don't want to have that debate so if you feel that way, I respect that, but I'm not sure what other avenues there are. Of COURSE it's an update. But to me, it's the best one so far.
It makes me really eager to see the next step on the next generation of systems, that's gonna be awesome.
