Was afraid to miss the cut if I left grids off, but round 2 was much better since I did not put two drives in the creekbed like I did in round 1.....anxious to play the rest of the event....
Gave no grids gameplay a try and it's just flat out not for me. I understand how to read a green in real life and tried to apply some of my knowledge to the game. For example, I looked at the whole green and tried to see the general slope it's tilted to, watch how the ball reacts past the hole if I hit it too long etc.

It's way too random and inconsistent. There were times I'd putt and completely misread the break and end up with a putt that starts right and goes further right or vice versa. It's just not reliable enough.

The happy medium for me? No Beads grid. It gives me a general sense of where the green is breaking without making anything less than 10ft automatic. In fact, I missed a few of those. It makes the short game tougher because you really don't want to leave yourself a putt outside of your comfort zone.

For all you no gridders, I salute you haha. It ain't for the faint of heart.

I've always played no grid in video golf but with this game I have to enable zoom to get a good look at the green.
If you zoom & the click the swing stick once or twice you can get a closer look at the putting surface.
What I would like is to get the cameras upgraded so we can go lower to view break & also more freedom of movement so we can get a look back from the cup to the golfer.
Another good tip is to check the break using the aim marker moving it around will give you a good idea of elevation change at different intervals over the distance of the putt.
Lastly if your TV has a Gamma setting if you reduce it to minimum the break should be more visible.(Fox used this technique at the U.S Open broadcast to help viewers get a good idea of green break)

Finally got around to "downloading" TPC Scottsdale only to find out that you need to be connected to the internet to play it. This is a dealbreaker for me with the DLC courses and if the content upgrades are like that too then I'm done.

I know it's unusual to be offline most of the time but when I buy a game I expect to be able to play it offline.

Hands, please tell me the updates won't be like this...

So when are some of these changes to the difficulty levels of the "tour" mode style swing expected to roll out?

I'd say August 11th, when the requisite patch to allow Scottsdale to be available in Career and online modes will have to be released.

Then there's also this from the official Rory McIlroy PGA Tour forum, posted by one of the developers on the 28th, concerning Head-to-Head play issues that couldn't be fixed by a server side patch:

"There are a lot of H2H issues that will be addressed in the first patch, which will go live in a few weeks."

Of course, that would fall into that August 11th time frame also. My money's on 8/11... I just hope they knock a home run with this patch!

This died off quickly. No new news? And no, I do not consider the two "new" courses to be news.

The first update is coming August 11th with Scottsdale. The second update is in progress now.

I thought you took the game back to the store?

Let my friends talk me into keeping it because of us playing against one another. Which has only happened twice in three weeks.
