I agree that this is a silly move on their part. At the very least, it seems like a waste of money for 2K, as they spent whatever it cost to license these real-life pros...only to have them show up in 10 second snippets in career mode and that's it.

For me personally, the pro cutscenes that they've shown in the preview streams have been buggy and a bit worthless, too...some folks on other forums have pointed out that they have shown a player putting for an eagle on a par 3, a player taking his first shot from the fairway, etc.

honestly kinda ruins it for me. like whats the point of paying for the likenesses if youre not gonna utilize them for more than just the name. the player models even hardly resemble their real life selves

Could you play as a pro in Links?

Honestly, All I've ever wanted is a game that represents the courses I see on TV that I could never get to play in real life. Personally, I would never spend a dime on more than cover athlete. And really, Tiger is the only cover athlete that actually made a difference in sales.

If they can use real names to populate leaderboards, I don't need any real players in the game.

They do make a good way for friends to handicap each other, with the better player taking a worse rated pro to even things up. Otherwise, I've always wanted to play as myself in every golf game.

It's not a show stopper for me as I rarely "played as a pro" in golf games where you could. I used to play a few rounds of the Tiger Woods series games as pros, while I was grinding my created player up, just to get a feel for how the game would play from the tournament tees once I built my player up to that point. "Grinding" for physical attributes isn't a problem in 2K21, so not being able to play as a pro will be a non-issue for me.

What I'm truly surprised about, however, is the fact that you can't play *against* a pro, head to head!? I think it would spice up career mode play considerably if you could opt to play along with the featured pro that was closest to you on the leaderboard in a tournament. The problem is that I don't believe the AI pros really play the course out, stroke by stroke. They just represent score calculations. That's why you'll only see them in cut-scene highlights.

This is such a minimal use of the player licenses they have that it makes me wonder if it was worth the money and effort to associate them with the game. It's better than what they had in TGC 2019, but it still a baby step towards where they really need to go to make PGA TOUR 2K21 feel like it has the player engagement of NBA 2K21.

The real golfers only show up in career mode. They are your rivals as you progress thru the mode. You earn rewards as you outplay them statistically, but you don't actually "play" them on the course. During career mode rounds, the real pros will also be shown in cutscene highlights, showing their progress in their rounds.

Call it make-believe if you want, but one of my favorite things to do with a golf game is to play my own tournaments with all the golfers, playing as every golfer and seeing who wins after 4 rounds. I’ve pre-ordered already, but I am very disappointed I won’t get a chance to play as these guys and have even more tournaments.

Maybe the cut scenes of the Pro players are literally what I have worried about in my piece below........

"CPU AI in this game being now "seeable" via the Pro's, has me excited firstly, but dubious about how genuine they are secondly.

I know they have put sliders in so we can choose the Skill Level of the CPU AI before starting our Careers....................but I really do need to find out if the shots that pop up occasionally, showing some of their shots as "just happened"............how do we know that these are not all pre-recorded in terms of the ball lie, ball physics, ball path, where the ball ends up, i.e. most times in the hole. All they needed to do was create about 1000 of them, and of course as shots come up to show us, they change the Pro playing the shot, and make it all look genuine, make it fit the course they are on, the look of the weather etc.

I do hope I am wrong, and that there is some genuine CPU AI going on in the background playing their shots using parameters similar to ours.

What kind of makes me feel my gut feeling is correct is due to them being reluctant to show us all their shots being played, as Rory's did, as the Tiger games did.

Why put a coder on this game to create a genuine CPU AI in the background if all the game shows is one off shots, mostly for the ball ending up in the hole? I don't go along with the theory that the modern gamer "has no interest in watching AI shots", because I damn well do, in fact if it had an option to watch CPU playing all the shots, I would be all in on that, this game looks beautiful on PC and deserves a genuine CPU AI to be in it.

If this CPU AI is 100% genuine and every shot we that we witness from the Pro's was organically having already been played live in the game, in the background before we see it.......then THIS GAME is one of the greatest sports games ever created.

I just need to find out for sure!!! "

Totally agree, I reckon they have faked the Pro AI shots into the game, and made it seem they really are playing shot by shot in the background by giving us the CPU skill sliders. If they genuinely play each shot one after the other, there would or could be an option in the game to play against them and see all their shots.

Typical of The Golf Club's coders, they have NEVER, in my opinion, employed people to put proper AI into their games, hence the use of bloody "Ghost" players..........cannot stand it.

Impossible for HB games to offer that as an option being as they clearly have fake AI in the game. Which is better I suppose than no AI at all in their previous The Golf Club games.

Well, I am assuming they are faked into it, I am playing lots and lots of Career mode and mentally trying to remember the CPU shots I witness, to see if any start to repeat 100% in terms of everything the ball does......well, also doing an Alt F9 to record sessions off for real proof.
