It looks like EA is coming at golf with guns blazing. I would’ve been inclined to stick with 2K if they got the simple things right. They didn’t, so the current version is the last 2K golf game I buy.Comment

With EA adding all four majors, and especially including Augusta, 2k really needs to dramatically improve ball physics, swing mechanics, and graphics if it wants to continue to compete. The Tour license, Tiger, and a few other pros just won't cut it.
If 2k comes back with another game with a ball that doesn't spin, only their love it or hate it analog swing mechanic, and their dated graphics I'm not sure it's viable vs. a game that's at least as good as the last Tiger game or an improvement on Rory.Comment

I've started playing more public matchmaking in 2K21 on my XBox Series X, now that they've added the ability to run the game at 60 FPS. It seems that others are picking back up on it also because I've had very little difficulty getting into an alt-shot 9 hole match in the past week. I played one three days ago with three other players who had believably authentic looking avatars, none of them used the cheesing 'red fast' swing exploit, everyone played at a reasonable pace, and no one quit.
The match went to the last hole after each team was up at two different points in the match. There were no hitches in the game, no mid-swing freezes, and no draw times of longer than 3 seconds in between holes. It was one of the most enjoyable multiplayer experiences I've had in quite a while. I even played three 1v1, 9 hole matches that all went swimmingly.
I was just about ready to make a glowing recommendation for public matchmaking, but my last two 1v1 matches ended when my opponent quit just as soon as they recognized they no longer had a chance to win, and did so before I could tap in my game closing shot to actually etch the win. They're both on my blocked player list now, but one of them said I didn't deserve to win because I had used a splash shot, where I should have played a chip shot. I'll freely admit I can't manage the chipping game beyond 14 yards in this game. If I have an uphill 15 yard from pin lie in the fairway, is it really all that egregious to play a splash shot?Duke Football? Hell yes it's Duke Football! --- Coach CutcliffeComment

This anecdote is so funny for so many different reasons.
Presumably you were playing someone that wasn't of legal (US) drinking age...or at least, I hope that was the case. Anyway, I'd say if you had only 2 bad interactions in the past 3-4 sessions, that's a pretty good hit rate. That's about as good as it gets in online games these days.Comment

Doyley, the administrator over on TGC Tours, says that this means that very fast red drives will only travel 220 yards...
Quite the change to the swing mechanic when the game is already eight months old at this point! It's a needed change, but one that will require a lot of players to completely alter how they swing.
