The article hits all the pros and cons of 2K21's online multiplayer in sufficient detail. I think they missed a good opportunity to make it more desirable to more players by allowing users to tailor the games to their liking more. The Putt Previews need to be taken out of online multiplayer, but if not that, at least allow users to disable that option for multiplayer. The match type could indicate that putt previews are disabled on the match type menu.

As limited as the online multiplayer is in this game, I must say that I do enjoy the 1v1 9-hole matches, and on the PC version, 2v2 Alt-Shot 9-hole matches. They run smoothly and in real time. I love the offset camera angles the game gives you I stress PC version for Alt-Shot matches because you're far more likely to get a group that's going to start one and stick it out until completion. I've had "1" 2v2 Alt-Shot match complete on the XBox One X. Most of the time at least one player bails on the first tee.
