Not gonna lie...it seems this mode is specifically created for streamers/Twitch/YouTubers, etc.

And if you follow PGA 2K21 on social media, you'll see that all of their "affiliated" streamers are tweeting, sharing, posting, etc. all about their sponsored streams tomorrow which will show this off.

Boy the "media team" sure comes alive when it's time to share some "news" or a "new release" is coming.

It's quite the contrast with the level of support they offer for bug reports.

how about adding the traditional foursome play, stroke, Stableford scoring, best ball, low/high, wolf, scramble...where is that? Add the ability to play user-created courses in random matches....Or having the Detroit course not crash EVERY time...

Sounds like this could be used in real life to alleviate pace of play issues...haha

But yeah, I don't really feel like this is something for me. I'm sure some folks will enjoy speed golf, but I'll stand by my statement that this is designed for the streamers.

My curiosity got the best of me and I checked in this AM to see if Divot Derby was available yet, and it was. I approached this from the perspective of a crotchety old fart with the mindset of, we don't need any more gimmicky game play. Well, I'm here to say (I enjoyed it!.

The objective is to get the ball in the hole the fastest. It doesn't matter how many strokes you take, so don't take a lot of time picking clubs, shaping shots, assessing wind, slopes, and elevations, load, aim, and fire! It starts of with 20 golfers and the slower finishers are eliminated in varying lots each hole. I made it to the next to the last hole in my effort and finished 4th overall. I made a double bogey on a par 3 hole, yet I was the first to finish the hole out 12 players!?

You have to play this game with a different mind set and it will take you some time not to mull over your shot. There was a sense of urgency about it that's not normally a part of golf. It was fun to have 20 people out there at once, but it also was already getting old by the time I finished. I can't see myself playing it everyday, but it has a peculiar appeal to it.

HB Studios did some work on the production qualities of it and the announcing was a key ingredient to selling the experience. It flowed without a hitch that I could see. One interesting thing is you can't fast-forward your shot. The pins are also in the hole for putting, which annoys me a bit. I didn't take the time to try to pull them out by hitting the X button, as minimizing button mashing time is key.

I can see where this mode would have some appeal to a lot of younger players though. Anything that helps sell the game, I'm all for it, as long as I still have my more simulation oriented options to go to.

That's all the crow pie I can eat today... over and out!

Thanks for the report! I should probably try it before judging, but it just doesn't appeal to me at all. But I am glad they are adding things to keep it fresh, though.

EDIT - I tried it now, too. Yep, confirmed it's not for me. Saw lots of hole outs in my game, since it's locked to Pro difficulty - the flag just kept getting peppered with pitch shots. Made it 6 holes and was eliminated.

Not nearly as much as the Pumpkin Head.

Sounds like it wants to be mario golf and a realistic simulation.

I don't mind that they are trying stuff like this. Seems like it could be a fun diversion for a few laughs. I view this like I view the park or gym games in NBA2K - I tried them a few times, found they were not for me, and went back to solo offline franchise.

Do the balls ricochet off each other if they happen to make contact, though? That would actually be really fun (potentially) - someone hits a leaner and you hit it into their ball and knock it 50 feet out. It would be hard to do of course, but when it happens, that'd be kind of a fun wrinkle.

I just don't get how they can spend so much energy on stuff like this, but can't seem to find time (or figure out) how to fix the leaderboards?
