One of the reasons I feel like Country Clubs is such an important part of what a modern golf game should be is that it allows you to compete with a community on similar settings. You are not competing with the -20 guys. They exist everywhere, and fanboys pull them out to bash the other game.
But I’ve found, a CC of a bunch of similar gamers, with similar takes on how they want to game, can produce the completion and fun a golf game needs to be fun.
If someone wants a CC with full on arcade settings, why would I want to stop them? I play Rory with no zoom, the hardest swing settings, and no post strike spin. I do leave it so that I don’t have to swing diagonally to fade and hook, because I am not consistent enough going straight up and down. I struggle to get much under par. If I start really improving, going to diagonal swings may be what I try.
I could start or find a club with those settings, or embrace the settings the community I am playing with have chosen.
As far as 2K. I just never enjoyed its gameplay. If that means I’m not an authentic enough golf gamer, so be it. It’s not why I play any sports game.
Honestly, it was PGA 2000 that finally led me to TW, since they hired those guys, and that was an insanely fun PC golf sim. They are why we have analog swings now.
TW 11 is by far my favorite, but I’ve enjoyed all the EA golf games since about TW 08 or so. I wouldn’t expect folks that like 2K’s game to like EA’s. They really do feel different. I’ve owned every single version of TGC and 2K, and not a single one kept my interest, but I’m still pulling Rory out for the solo gameplay. Career and online modes suck, but play now is great.
