To wit: A very typical shot from maybe 80 yards out, way uphill, caddie gives me a club that appears to come 20 feet or more short of the pin. Club up one, pull it WAY back, hit it true and straight, and it sails over the pin.

Next hole, do the opposite, take the given club, same swing, and it comes up 20 feet short.

Putting is like learning a completely different game. If the line is flat or even slightly downhill, you have to pull it back about twice as much as 2k21, and even doing that and just kissing the putt almost always ends with a runner 15 feet past the hole.

I'm really loving the game, I'm playing on the rhythm archetype and almost always hit a perfect tee shot and fairway approach. But man...once I get within 80 yards and especially greenside and on the green, it's bogie or double way too often (pro mode). It just all seems to be really unbalanced, tee to green. Tee shots and fairway woods are almost automatic for me, but wedges and putting seems to be exponentially more erratic and random. Really hoping they tune the short game a bit.
    You playing Master or Pro?

I'm not very good manage to stay around par sometimes a bit better sometimes a bit worse. I am playing mostly Play Now not Career checking out the ported courses from 21.
Playing Rhythm I have settled on Back Tees. Medium Wind Firm Fairways Firm Greens and Fast Green Speed.
While the putting is harder I find that if I am not too aggressive it is manageable and it is much better than 21.
Chipping is much easier than at first I find I chip better than in the previous versions though sometimes one gets away.
Sand shots can be tough but if you don't try to get greedy you can get out and give yourself a putt. I have holed out more from the sand in this game than ever in 21 but I have left a bunch in the bunker if I try to get too cute.
The long game is great maybe a bit too easy but I can't handle Master and I miss enough for Pro to still be a challenge.
Got 2 aces so far only ever managed 1 in the past two versions.
Get the occasional crash here and there but this is by far the best version game play wise yet.
Presentation is better but a few more cut scenes would be nice and they must have a way to prevent celebrations on bogies and I don't want my golfer waving to a crowd when there isn't anybody there.
So HB/2k have the makings of a great game but won't invest the money to get to the next level.
If you are unhappy with 23 go back and play 21 there is no comparison.

Re: PGA TOUR 2K23 Impressions Thread

Playing on Pro, but finding that with the new swing meter around your swing, it kind of trains you to ignore it and just use the players swing and the dualshock vibration to time your swing. I can see myself turning that off eventually.

I've been playing for 5 hours straight, right after I posted earlier this morning about how frustrating the short game has been for me and how easy the long game is comparatively, I've played 3 events since then. Shot 11 under at the John Deere (I know, one of the best scoring courses in the tour), and then 4 and 5 under for top 3 finishes in the following two rounds.

I figured out one major thing for any shot under 100 yards, and especially greenside and putting: If you only *slightly* overswing, you will be punished way more than before. All short game shots need to be pulled back, especially the closer you get to the green. I've figured out that pulling putts, even uphill, back a bit and making sure that I'm short or just at the pace tempo vs. slightly over, really makes a huge difference.

And now that I think I've figured it out, they will issue the patch I've been whining about to trim down the short game. Gotta love this game.

No meter no vibration and never ever used the marker in any of their games.
If they cared they could make this game top notch but they don't. Pre address you got the weird looking wrist and the bent left arm. How hard is that to clean up? And the awkward practice swing. Still think Tiger had anything to do with the development of this game? Still a blast to play but can they get one guy who plays or watches golf look at this game?

I've really struggled with tempo the last few days, especially mid to short irons. I'm the king of slow, slow, slow, perfect practice swing then black fast real swing. Lol

There are times with this game during practice swing I can only get a slow result then as soon as I hit the real swing it's fast. I always seem to have the one bad swing on every hole that just leaves me trying to recover and make par instead of birdies especially on par 5's which you just cant do on those if you want to score well. I'm on Pro with the meter on putts only, I find the meter pretty distracting on full swings.

I watch some of these Youtubers and their swingpath is just dead nuts straight and I have no idea how they do that. My swingpath looks like a 3 year old's coloring book. As long as you get back to center at the top doesn't really matter I guess. I've tried every grip, holding the controller different ways, even switched to left stick but every one just feels not quite right.

Does withdrawing from a tournament hurt or penalize you in any way? I thought I could quit a tourney I started in MyCareer but you can only resume or withdraw.

Finally had a little breakthrough. Changed up the way I hold the controller and started using both thumbs on the right stick and it's really straightened out my swing path and allowed me to focus on the tempo a bit more. Still have the errant shot here there but much more consistent. Still have to putt better though.

Switched back to rhythm archetype this morning and had my best round on Pro shooting a 12 under 59. It was on TPC Summerlin with little wind so not exactly a tough course but still a good little confidence booster.

Quick question. I thought once you beat your rival, the items unlock to be worn by your golfer, is that not the case? I beat HV3 and the Jordan’s are not available.

Watched about an hour of the LIV team championship today, because in spite of him moving to LIV, Cam Smith is still my favorite golfer.

I noticed how interesting and challenging the Doral course is. Curious if anyone knows if a good version of that course existed in 21, and if it's been ported to 23 yet?

                        Jordan I Triple White

Not yet but if you want to see a pretty good representation of that kind of course why don't you give Dygos a play from the back tees.

Finally trying to play a private online match with my buddy...it's taken us over ONE HOUR to figure out the whole create private room, the ridiculous passcode system to join the room. It's incredibly frustrating how they took something so simple from 2k21 and made it so difficult just to log on and play a quick game with a friend.

Question is...we can't for the life of us figure out how to turn on TURN ORDER so we can see each other's shot, instead of just the ghost ball view. We've googled it, been in every menu, can't find it. Someone please help.

Never been so frustrated with this series as we are right now. Just stupid time wasting nonsense changes, just to make it "different'. Seriously considering just going back to 2k21 when I play with him. The upgrades to this game just aren't worth all of the BS hassle you have to go through now to do the simplest things.

Finally hopped into societies over the weekend. Did the most recent ApexHound event and 2k event. Also did the first 2 rounds in the TGTC challenge society just to see how difficult it was. My first rounds on Master with no putt meter........it went well..... not Lol

That's tough putting with no meter but did enjoy it and even turned it off in my career. Definitely going to take some time to score decent without the meter though.
