Re: PGA TOUR 2K23 Impressions
Spending more time with this game recently and I really enjoy it. The 3-click swing mechanic used here is great and adds an appropriate level of chance and challenge to using it. That said, I'm having a horrible time with chip shots and putting in regards to distance control. The ball just seems to keep rolling well past the hole even with (what i deem) proper ball marker placement and low power on the swing.
I'm sure I'll figure it out eventually; it's really my only squabble with the game at the moment.Currently Playing:

I hear you jbd! Your position on it sounds similar to mine. I wish I could take EA's PGA Tour graphics and couple it with PGA TOUR 2K23's swing interface, putting physics, and camera presentation options. That would make for a heck of a game.Duke Football? Re: PGA TOUR 2K23 Impressions
DJ, I seem to suffer from what you're describing with the excessive ball roll. Have you tried the higher friction balls which have lesser rollout. I think I use the level 2 friction balls, which have a roll coefficient of like "5". I wouldn't have a chance in this game if it weren't for those high friction balls, but they've turned the game from unplayable to enjoyable to me.Currently Playing:

Re: PGA TOUR 2K23 Impressions
I originally started playing 23 on Pro swing stick went to Master and found it a good challenge for me. I went to 3 click Master found myself going to 3 click Legend. That is a very good challenge for me. Toughest things about the 3 click is the putting and chipping. Having gone back to the swing stick Master Level I am enjoying the game more and find myself more connected to the game with the swing stick mechanic. You really have to make sure you don't leave yourself in a position where you are above the hole and have massive downhill big breaking putts.
Like both mechanics I think they did a great job here. Next go round they might want to back up on the rollouts a little bit. I have never used anything other than the default balls.Comment

Re: PGA TOUR 2K23 Impressions
What's funny is I was playing a multiplayer matchup round this morning and the guy I was playing against kept running his putts well past the hole. He made some long putts, but boy... when he missed, he missed! I wondered if he was using the high friction balls or not. My battery was dead on my headset and I didn't get to ask him. I think I'll send him a message and ask.Duke Football? Hell yes it's Duke Football! --- Coach CutcliffeComment

The thing that regret most about the analog swing interface is I honestly think they've got the affects of the swing tempo, and swing path backwards. I wish the swing path was the chief determinant of hook/slice and tempo the chief determinant of pull/push. I can associate those more in the feel of the swing with the shot result. In real life, I don't hook the ball because I've gotten to quick on my tempo, I produce more of a straight pull. Also in real life, I set up my aim and stance to produce an inside out swing path when I want to play a hook. The swing interface in this game just feels bass ackwards to me because of this. The incorporation of these two components is so vital to the game's enjoyment that I wouldn't be playing it without them. I just wish that I could make a more intuitive association with them in my senses.
It would be great if you could have an option to switch the effects between those two swing mechanic components between the two results in offline play, at least. I'd probably give career mode more of a go if I had the option to use a swing mechanic where the swing path controlled hook/slice and tempo controlled pull/push. I don't ever hear anyone else talking about this, so I may be the lone wolf in this desire?🤨Duke Football? Hell yes it's Duke Football! --- Coach CutcliffeComment

Re: PGA TOUR 2K23 Impressions
So far I have played I found it basic and same as 2K21. However, there are some rounds which are worth once your timing is good enough. The challenges I am facing are chipping the ball so far.
Rest overall game is okay and I think Graphics can be improved.Comment

Re: PGA TOUR 2K23 Impressions
Doesn't seem backwards. As a righty golfer if you swing in to out / or open your club face, you're going to fade/slice and vice versa. I could be wrong, so actual golfers in here can comment.Comment

Re: PGA TOUR 2K23 Impressions
I think the swing path fade/hook amd tempo fade/hook are hard to translate to real golf unfortunately. The reason is in real life it is dependent upon open/closed face angle which we doesn't exist in this game.
For example an out to in swing results in fade/slice if the club face is pointed down center line at impact (in other words if you aimed down the middle but swing out to in). However, if you swing out to in and the club face is matching the swing direction you would hit a straight pull. The opposite for a draw (swing in to out with club face relatively straigh) and push (swing in to out with club face point in direction of swing).
In the game the "club face" wouldn't change (I guess you could consider doing the fade/draw setting changing your club face).
In the game, they also have tempo affect left/right which I believe is what Onlooker doesn't like. There is truth to this complaint in my opinion because swinging fast doesn't necessarily mean hook and slow doesn't mean fade.....it really comes down to club face and swing path irrelevant of how fast you swing in real life.
That being said, I do like that tempo is considered. Maybe it shouldn't be left/right but a distance penalty (bad tempo maybe results in mis hit). It is hard to replicate tempo to real life as having your tempo off in real life and result in a myriad of issues (or could even hit a good shot if somehow still square up clubgace despite being off with your swing).
Regardless of all that, I personally believe the swing mechanics in 2K are FAR superior to the EA game. It is hard to hit a really poor shot in EA game. 2K feels more like golf to me. Just wish we could take these mechanics and swap them into everything else EA has.Last edited by TheBrew101; 12-13-2023, 11:28 AM.Comment

Re: PGA TOUR 2K23 Impressions
Maybe I'm just not understanding what you guys are seeing, but I never needed to use any of the special balls to get my balls to stop rolling out. When I see people online hit short chips that rollout a mile after, I always assume they just didn't add any backspin..?Comment

Re: PGA TOUR 2K23 Impressions
Am I the only one who's never had issues with rollout by just moving the right stick down with default ball? On pretty much all my shots, I add some backspin to get them to stop and have never really felt that the roll-outs were that bad when doing that.. Even with high irons and woods, adding tons of backspin to them has always given me a pretty good "hop - skip - stop" motion on my balls..

I just had a course up ("The San Francisco Treat"), and took A PW into the Hole 3 green from 165 yards away. I pulled the R stick all the way down to add more loft.
I hit the shot well, and the ball carried 161. It bounced 3 times on the green, and then rolled out 3 more yards, carrying the ball off the green and giving me a total shot distance of 170 yards.
A couple holes later, I took a 3 hybrid into a green. Full loft into the green with the wind slightly into me, ball landed short of the green, hopped onto it, and still rolled out another 5-6 yards.
I think course conditions, wind, and the uphill/downhill nature of each shot plays a role in this too, as most courses I play have firm greens and firm fairways.Last edited by MrArlingtonBeach; 12-13-2023, 04:42 PM.Orbis Non SuficitComment
