Re: PGA Tour delayed to April 7th.

Speaking of yelling into the tweeter-verse...

I see a couple people on there are saying that they are now passing on the EA golf game, as they were apparently just wanting to play it for the week before MLB The Show came out?

It's now releasing the week AFTER The Show, so that could also impact how well this game goes over. Just an interesting observation.

Sorry, just had to LOL @ this.

If this was a civil board, developers would probably still come here to talk to us. These boards are one of the least civil I've ever been apart of. Not every user obviously, but the bad ones REALLY stand out above the rest, and bring threads down to a screeching halt.

Not so much in the golf forums, but the other sports... Sheesh

I think we're probably just way off thinking this has anything to do with 60 FPS. Most likely has to be some updates on the courses or something else trivial that wouldn't take much time. Just can't see what has changed in the past month that would suddenly make this viable
        You are probably right ..

The 30fps better be *butter* smooth, or this is going to tank.

Consoles are vastly more important as a market than the PC release (just way bigger market size), and having your lone competition be able to do 60fps is just never going to go away as a talking point.

I can just see the early release YouTube videos, with nearly all of them having 2k23 as the obviously comparison point.

Sports game devs don't even talk to people on their own company forums anymore do they?

HB's forum has vast swaths that are unmoderated Russian spambot zones.

Also, the HB Devs never surfaced as promised on the 2k forum, which itself is so over moderated that it's literally useless to say anything other than "YAY 2k!"

The Perfect Golf devs barely even said "thanks for the money" before bailing for Trackman in the dark of night and essentially never saying a word again after about 2018.

The only time I remember a meaningful comeback there was when they wanted to post about hiring away 3rd party course creators, which they did, which essentially killed off any more 3rd party PG courses save for like 2 folks who've done a few in the years since.

(heard this first hand from one of them by email -- work for Trackman meant agreeing to not make any more PG courses, even if on your own time for fun, etc)

It’s the one thing they acknowledged and were seemingly surprised about (30fps blowback)
I think they could easily add a 60 FPS performance mode option to the console versions. In my experimentation with computer golf games over the last 10 years, cutting the resolution in half has allowed the frame rate to be effectively doubled. I think the game would like fine in 1080p. I play PGA TOUR 2K23 in 1080p on my PC because it allows a stable frame rate at 60 FPS. If I switch it to 4K (2160p), it struggles to maintain 30 FPS, and becomes unplayable for me.

The only reason I can think of as to why EA might be reluctant to go with a performance mode is Augusta. I can see the Augusta National committee being so anal about the appearance of their game that they don't want its appearance to be compromised by a 1080p resolution option. It sounds like they're going to have the option on the PC version, where they've already said there will be a 30 FPS, 60 FPS, and unlocked frame rate option for it. If I can get to my nVidia monitor, I can change the res for the game there if necessary to allow me to run at 60 FPS. I'd imagine the PC version will have a resolution option in the graphics setting menu for EA Sports PGA TOUR if they're going to have a 30/60/unlocked option for the frame rate.

Hmm thats weird because early release for The Show and official release date of this where both to be on 3/24.

Ah...I searched and saw that MLBTS releases on March 28. That must just be the "normal" launch date and not early access.

"Both the Standard Edition and Collector’s Edition of MLB The Show 23 will release on March 28, 2023." https://www.operationsports.com/mlb-...modes-and-more

EDIT - I do see now that preorders of certain versions do get Early Access to The Show on the 24th.

Two weeks is a minor delay I doubt it will be too much.

I've heard that the other areas on OS can be much more of a Wild West than our quiet little group of friends here in the Golf section.

                      True?
I really only ever peruse the NHL area from time to time

By and large OS is a very calm place overall. I read and post on other message boards where you better have a really thick skin.

This two week delay is very strange. I would think people would rather have them release on time and add 3 click down the road. They ain't getting 60fps in the game in this short space of time if they couldn't get it in by now.

Maybe they're taking this time to get a very comprehensive deep dive game play video on sim difficulty together?

(which I see being bandied about as a rationale for the delay perhaps)

An EA rep is on the record saying they had very early access to knowledge about changes at Augusta

I don't see how they could be needing more time for that now, in the 11th hour.
