Ranked Matchmaking Improves Online Play in PGA Tour 2K23

Since the game was released last year, it's been clear that PGA Tour 2K23 needed to...

I know it's not an issue specific to PGA 2K23's ranked matchmaking, but getting disconnected from the server due to no fault of your own, causing you to lose rank, is frustrating. It doesn't seem to happen to everyone, but some prominent streamers out there have lost something like 300 rank points due to server disconnects. I have had my share, too...no other games I play drop connection or get network errors like 2K23 does. So being beholden to the 2K/HB servers can be a problem at times.

Also, along with 3-click, it's also obvious that most players use the consumable golf balls. Plus, ranked is only on Pro difficulty. What I'd like to see are other divisions that let you play with only default golf balls, or play on different difficulty settings.

Otherwise, the ranked matchmaking is very fun. It's awesome to have those pressure-packed moments, where you're 1 Up on the last hole's tee, and have water all around. Or if you have that putt that would finish off your opponent. It adds a much-needed play mode to this game that will extend its shelf life. And with the inclusion of cross play, you can now play anyone on any console, ensuring you get a game pretty much whenever you want.

      This is exactly right.

This is the best mode in the game, and they MUST fix the connection issue. And I'm totally with you on different difficulty levels. In 2k21, I always played Pro and routinely shot well under par, sometimes even 14 or 15 under on a crazy day at Detroit or someplace easy.

In 2k23, I've never been able to get nearly as good in Pro mode. I struggle to shoot 5 under and am usually around even or a couple under. It's just harder than 2k21. For me at least. Pro Am is the best balance for me, I don't touch any other settings, just standard Pro Am, and have some matches a little over par and some 7 or 8 under. I would love to play ranked mode in Pro Am.

And be able to choose the course before it chooses your random opponent. Please?

One thing I forgot to mention in my previous post relates to this line from the article:

"As for rewards, the game doesn’t really offer any indication yet of what you can earn by climbing to the higher tiers other than bragging rights."

They should have tied some kind of actual unique reward, like VC, fittings, clubs, clothes, etc. to each level you achieve as you climb the ladder.

Maybe would have been a way for people to get Clubhouse Pass items that they'd only get if they'd paid for the Premium versions of the pass.

Are we able to choose who our partner is in ranked alt shot? I assume that is what the coded rooms are for but haven’t looked to see if they work yet.

I think so...I have seen some content creator folks pair themselves up with someone they know using the room codes for alt shot matches.

Need some clarification about about unlocking tiers. Playing over 450 hours. Can’t unlock Tier #2 after beating the 3 rivals in Tier #1 over and over. Playing in MyCareer as a Pro.

In order to unlock a tier do you need to beat each rival one time and one round? Or, is there something else I’m missing? Are there certain difficulty settings?

Not sure I entirely understand your question...and I'm not sure if it's related to ranked matchmaking?

But from the sounds of it, you're talking about getting to the next tier of rivals in career mode...if that's the case, you should be able to get access to the next level of rivals in career after you beat all rivals in your current tier. So in tier one, it's Bubba Watson, Rickie Fowler, and Harold Varner III. You choose one rival per event, and have to outperform them. If you do, then you get their rival rewards after the final round of the event, and you then choose the next rival before your next event and do the same thing over again.

After each rival tier is completed, you'll get an in-game phone message saying a new tier of rivals is available.

Re: Ranked Matchmaking Improves Online Play in PGA Tour 2K23

Just read elsewhere that the last patch has removed the ability to back out of a match once you got paired with someone and were given a course to play, prior to the actual match starting.

Some courses are not at all fun to play, so I liked being able to back out of I didn't want to have to endure the lousy pin locations at East Lake or wherever. Now you're forced to play what they give you.
