I like Matt, truest stats guy in the game today, but this means nothing to me. I don't play as pros.
It is good to see, though, that 2k is continuing with course releases and content well after launch. After the apparent letdown and lowering of expectations for the EA game, I have a new appreciation for this 2k game. It still plays, live 1v1 vs a friend or matchmaking, better than any game of golf in history. Yes, graphics are dated, but they are still decent and it's all about the gameplay and drama when it comes down to the stretch in a live match.
Put the gameplay of this one into a far superior graphics engine and we are good for 4 years. Starting to think that is going to be 2k well before EA pulls it off. Say what you will about 2k's dated Unity engine and boring career mode, but when it really comes down to playing a very well done game of golf on the course, mechanics, ball flight and physics, etc, EA has a very tall order to match that along with what will surely be much more impressive course graphics.
I'll take true sim gameplay over stunning courses every single time. I want true to life sim gameplay and drama!! when playing a live person.Last edited by golfnut67; 03-10-2023, 07:39 PM. -

Yeah, there's just not enough things to do with pros. They need some kind of content where you can play as pros vs the CPU, match play, etc. But I'm not even sure if they have it modeled into the game to have the CPU take each shot realistically.Comment

For me it's all about simulating the real thing. I bought 2k21 and loved the gameplay out of the box but then found out the game couldn't keep score and was essentially broken. Then I remember the devs saying they didn't even know it was an issue when 2k23 was coming out. Made me wonder if it was even a mistake or just lazy. Then when 2k23 came out guys on here said the LPGA players in the game play on the PGA tour. I couldn't even believe that one. To me that would be like NBA 2k putting the WNBA players in the game but not the WNBA and then just mix it together with the NBA. I'm really hoping I enjoy EAs game as there is no way I'm buying 2k23.Comment

The issue isn't inclusion of female athletes in these games...it's the way they are added, so the companies not only fail to do the female athletes justice, but they take away from the whole experience at the same time.
For example, EA has already said they are having the LPGA tour license in their game. This would mean, to me anyway, that they will have a separate LPGA career mode like they did in Tiger Woods 14. They also said they will have the Augusta National Women's Amateur in it, too, which is amazing.
Obviously, we won't know for sure what they're doing until they actually show us, but if they follow the TW 14 path, EA seems to be trying to offer a true-to-life men's and women's career experience, like NBA 2K does with the WNBA as well.
In PGA 2K23, the LPGA pros they have are also in career mode as rivals...and while it is great that female pros are included, it's immersion-breaking to see Lydia Ko or Lexi Thompson winning men's majors and the FedExCup in career mode.
2K basically shoehorned the women's golfers into the game in a non-sensical way; a way that fails to capture women's golf but also takes away from the PGA Tour experience.
