Re: EA Sports PGA TOUR Impressions (PC)

I don't really know about “more realistically“ or not...

But I will say that, for our usages TW08 just functions in a way that is easy for my uncle to understand.

Being fully mouse driven including the swing and having it be simple to see what to click on and how far the distance is and what the club will do and the overhead map on the screen all the time..

It just makes sense and is simple and workable for him

It’s one of my big Knocks on the tiger games from the PS3 era and on to EA PGA now… it is just a little complicated in terms of what you need to pay attention to analyze tweak and then swing.

My uncle has always been frustrated by not having the overhead map on the screen all the time in EA games post TW08

And then on top of all that they have to add in the random nonsense

When we were briefly playing the current game, he had some shots go off in strange directions and he asked me why it did that and I was like… I have no f-in idea - lol

    “Fun!”

We might still stick with perfect golf. It just depends how well he adapts back to 08.

It’s been a long time and I’ll be curious to see how he picks it up again

All I can say is, I hope if I am cursed to live to 87 years old, I'm still in good enough shape to contemplate TW08 vs Perfect Golf vs anything else like that!

      Cheers to both of you.

I can't believe how good TW2008 still looks. It's simultaneously impressive (that a game old enough to drive still looks that good) and depressing (that games haven't really gotten that much better in all that time).

Maybe it's time to dig in to the ol' archival catalog again...

It falls apart when getting into the details and lightning for sure, however overall it's pretty impressive how well it can be dialed up.

My main appeal with it is the simplicity of the gameplay and interface and the massive course catalog (not tied to servers or any other restrictions about content and IP, etc)

It's like the last PC Golf hurrah of what now appears to have been a real golden age in sports gaming that ended somewhere in the early 2010's

All EA has to do is add 1 HUGE Patch with new gear and maybe a few new courses

I bought and played 2k25 and while its fun I dont think graphics are close to EAs and probably wont be until they dump HD Studio

The apparel doesnt look great either

Regardless hope EA golf isnt done again!

Finally got around to playing this on a PC that can do 4k/60hz well and it really is actually an enjoyable and very very pretty game.

Certainly excellent for casual play and touring around the beautifully done courses.

Interesting observation on this Scagwi. The thing that bugs my most about this game is that the thumbstick swing feels so "governed". I never felt like it was responsive enough to my swing inputs, but my PC can't handle 60 FPS with this game at 1080p, let along 4K. Have you done an A/B comparison with it by locking it at 30 FPS and then going right over to 60 FPS, just to see how much more "alive" the swing interface feels?

Hi JC -- I haven't done that sort of comparison, I'll admit.

I installed it, since I already owned it, after seeing how well this pretty "medium" PC was handling MSFS2024 -- just to "see", with no expectation to enjoy myself, yet I ended up playing 4 different rounds of 9 at different courses.

I totally can see what you mean about the governed swing. I sort of see what I *think* they were going for, with keeping the swing possibilities somewhat on rails and within the realm of what are realistic outcomes for a Pro (or aspiring Pro) golfer -- I suppose?

Let's see if it sticks for me I guess.

I'm just a solo player these days, so I'm only half committed to anything in this space. If I can get enough enjoyment to crank through this game for a while, I'll be pleased about it, simply because the courses are so good looking.

I own this game I think 4 or 5 times over (across platforms and accounts), so it's about time for me to get SOME value out of it - LOL!

4k/60 on my 65" OLED looks really really nice, I will say that!
